Andrew Barr has the happy news that the Centenary will feature a game of One Day Cricket now that the interim format is well and truly on the nose.

This morning I joined Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland to announce that Australia will play a one-day International at Manuka Oval as part of the 2012-13 Commonwealth Bank Series.

The Australian team is coming to Manuka Oval as part of the Centenary of Canberra celebrations in 2013.

Although Manuka Oval has hosted many Prime Minister’s XI matches, Canberra has never hosted a match involving the Australia cricket team.

The match will be a significant boost for cricket in the ACT. It will be a great chance for cricket fans from Canberra and around the region so see some of the best cricketers in the world in action. Juniors, in particular, will be able to see their cricketing heroes live.

How generous of Cricket Australia to give us a lame and dying format of the game now all the interest is in T20 or Tests.

Os possibly more interest is word that we’re in the mix to host world cup matches in 2015.

I’m glad Manuka finally gets a game – and I’m equally glad to lay the boot into Australian cricket at any opportunity. The game is dying and only has itself to blame. The “summer” season here streches over 5 or 6 months and they wonder why they don’t get packed houses every day of the week to see 2 or 3 touring sides play again, and again, and again. They have to realise the national team is not Collingwood or Carlton. And that for games or series to be meaningful there has to actually be less of them, against better quality opposition.

Tend to agree, but the scheduling and frequency of games is hard to weed out when you have a minimum number of games against all countries in a 3 or 4 year cycle.

Anyway, I’ll be at Manuka for our ODI next year.

Although, on the off chance CA is reading, I would have much preferred a Test.

Excellent..it’s good to see new places getting a chance to develop the game.
India has been pushing games to new grounds for years, even England have scheduled an Ashes test at Durham and dropped Edgbaston and Headingley for next summer.

Surely they have to start somewhere…a ODI gives them a good trial for everything and a full days service for the bars/outlets. Any idea who the opposition might be?

opposition is TBA although the windies are the big tour next year we hear.
