The Canberra Whisky Club has recently started meeting for monthly tastings and dinners. Monday the 15th of October marks the second Canberra Whisky Club meeting. More information can be found at www.whiskyclubs.com.au, or by emailing info@whiskyclubs.com.au

What?

The Canberra Whisky Club is comprised of individuals who are keen to expand their understanding and exposure to different Whisky’s from around the world.

The dinners provide a night of good food, whisky and talks from experts. They are designed to provide attendee’s with:

  • A scrumptious 3 course meal
  • Education on how to sniff and properly taste Whisky
  • General education including the background and history of distilleries and particular batches of Whisky’s
  • A social environment to meet new people
  • Tastings of a variety of Whisky’s from around the world including rare, exotic, award winning and common drops
  • Occasional tastings of exceptional non-whisky liquors, such as Gins, Rums, or Brandy’s
  • An avenue to try a particular drop before purchasing it
  • An introduction to globally growing trends, such as Whisky Cocktails
  • Provide access to international distillers, who come and do guest talks

Where?

This month the venue is Rydges Hotel, Capital Hill.

When?

Monday 15 October, arrive at 1850 for a prompt 1900 start. The evening generally wraps up around 2130.

How much?

No membership fees are required; you pay per month dependent on whether you would like to attend that month’s dinner or not.

Tickets need to be booked in advance. Tickets are $85 per person and include the 3 course meal and Whisky tastings. Tickets for designated drivers are available. The cost of these tickets will only be the cost of the meal, which may differ from month to month.

Tickets are available to purchase through the Canberra Whisky Club facebook page, or www.whiskyclubs.com.au

Why?

Whisky education amongst consumers and sellers in Australia can be lacking. Consumers may not be familiar with techniques which can be employed to improve and enhance the Whisky drinking experience. Similarly, bar tenders and bottle shop employees do not have sufficient Whisky education to be able to appropriately recommend or serve Whisky’s.

Due to the price of Whisky’s, it is difficult to justify spending money on a drop that may or may not be to your liking. Bottle shops do not regularly do Whisky tastings, so Whisky Club dinners provide an avenue to try before you pay.

For fun!
