Canberra wins the third sky crane!

The ABC informs us that, despite a vociferous campaign by Adelaide, Canberra is going to host the third “Elvis” helicopter (apparently the correct term is “Erickson Air-Crane”) is going to be operating out of Canberra this summer.

“Helicorp’s general manager, Mark Robertson, says the skycrane will arrive in Canberra on November 6”

Sucks to Adelaide, they wanted it so bad. That’ll teach the buggers for all their weird murders.

Burn! Burn they will!

Well after the screw up with the Canberra fires and the current weather patterns, kind of cant blame them for the over kill with a 3rd chopper.

that must have been the thing that went overhead the other evening. Very, very loud!

As a person who grew up in Adelaide and was there during the Ash Wednesday bush fires of 1982/83 I would havew thought they would be better off with the 3rd sky crane helicopter.

Surely Canberra is close enough to Sydney for us to use theirs?!

An awesome beast. When they first brought out Elvis several years ago they assembled it in Perth and flew it across the Nullabour to Melbourne. Had to refuel it every 200 kms. Yankie pilots got a little bored so started chasing roos in it causing them to run out of fuel before the next pickup point.
The debate at the local fire station was what to do if dumped on by Elvis. Stand erect or lie flat. Either way your stuffed.
I wonder where it was last week when the yanks lost a truck in California?

snahon, maybe they said, in their best Arnie voice

GET TO DA CHOPPAH!

I think it will be under some sort of joint control and will be sent wherever it’s required.

They’re run by an independent body financed by the Feds and the States and Territories:

I hope the firies said (in their best elvis voice) “Thankyou, Thankyou very much”
