Yesterday I was shown the best online local weather service in town, and so I give you the Canberra Yacht Club weather station.

Sure the Bureau has all this info, but their site can be a bit overwhelming and has significant latencies. This one just lays it all out.

According to the Yacht Club website, its averaging 27knots today. For a windsurfer, you’re guaranteed to go at least 60km/h. I’ll cyas at the lake!

I use this one:
[ACTEWAGL]

they used to have a bruce stadium one as well, but it seems to be no longer listed.

but my fave ‘quick read’ is:
http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR403.shtml

which quickly shows the direction, duration and force of storms, rain etc.

It’s probably the same five weather stations, but there’s some (+historical data) at Weather Underground. I just like the fact that one of them is really close to my house: it makes complaining about the damn heat so much more accurate.

There is a number of private weather stations around Canberra that are online similar to the Yacht Clubs. The following site has a listing of 5 in Canberra (incl the yacht club)- http://homepages.picknowl.com.au/stargazer/WeatherStationLinks.htm

I watched the Flying 15 championships the other week and couldn’t help noticing the excellent weather briefing they provided for those taking part. Excellent.
