Canberran inventor looking to save your Great Aunt's life

Hugh Geiger has made a phone that might save the life of someone you love.

Or it might cause you to become paranoid every time your kid gets distracted walking home from school and decides to climb a tree.

The phone has one button, works via voice commands, and is super simple to use. It’s a phone for old people and kids who may have trouble using a more complicated device.

Ease of use is all well and good, but the real idea behind the Cloudphone is to monitor your loved ones constantly.

Hugh’s Great Aunt fractured her hip when she fell and was unable to get help for hours, he wanted to prevent this problem.

Have a look at the video, and if it’s something you like the look of invest some money into it.

I think a device to help the elderly in this way is fantastic, and I wouldn’t mind my great aunt having one, but I am a little put off at the idea of parents bugging their kids and being notified instantly if Timmy takes a different path home from school or goes somewhere they shouldn’t.

It starts to get a little creepy at that point, although I’m sure many parents would disagree with me.

What are your thoughts Rioters?

Anyone planning on donating to the crowdfunding campaign?

Probably a bit morbid, but there have been a few abduction attempts around the place lately as well… Just look at the Daniel Morecombe case, this little gadget could of helped in that situation as it poles location..

Daniel Morcombe was abducted ten years ago. The risk of your child being abducted is so low as to be negligible. As Bruce Schneier has commented, if an event is so unusual that it attracts media coverage, it is so unlikely that it really isn’t worth being worried about.

Stop trying to induce irrational fear in parents to sell your product.

While statistically it’s quite unlikely to ever be needed for that, solving the problem of parents freaking out about their kid’s safety may well be worth the purchase of the product. To a person who can’t help but be apprehensive, peace of mind may be a commodity worth paying for.

It’s all up to the individual.

maybe, but what about the ‘cost’ to the child from this helicopter parenting style? i tend to side with red dog on this. the world is an infinitely safer place today than pretty well at any time in history, and getting safer.

It’s my fear – anxiety driven.. My children are a little to young for this yet… but when they are old enough to walk to and from school by themselves they will have one. I like to know what my children are doing and i like to keep them as safe as i possibly can using resources that are available to me.

My parents probably would of liked one for myself as a young teenager as well. especially on the day that i decided to skip my routine vaccination at school and head for the hills. Not my finest moment, but would of stopped them from hours of worry…

My brother has designed this to have many uses, healthcare is the primary one, the tracking is an added bonus and for someone like me who is anxious just thinking about what the school years are going to be like for me as a parent this would solve a few of those issues.

But it doesn’t solve the problem of parents freaking out about their kid’s safety due to sensationalist media coverage about very rare events.

Thanks Guys! We appreciate you helping to get the word out 🙂

I understand the kid bit might freak a few people out! But as a busy working parent, there is some value to tracking your childs location, if you don’t have the option of after school care and can’t leave work early (It is in no way meant to replace adult supervision of younger children, but we all need to give our kids a bit of freedom as they grow older)
