[Ed – I think the story here is that one Cathy Petocz has won the JJJ national Flesh it Out competition.

Anyone know what it is that Cathy the Canberran has won? And what is the Canberra band “who played inside a giant bubble made of sticky tape” of which she speaks in her interview?]

I was really good friends with Cathy in High School and she is really talented. She deserves this! Congrats Cathy!

Heaps good! Good on her.

neanderthalsis – Cathy plays for local band ‘Margaret Helen King’, check them out at http://www.myspace.com/margarethelenking. I’m not aware of them having any gigs coming up soon as they’re taking time off to write and adapt to the departure of a band member. They gigged quite a bit last year so hopefully we will see a bit more of them in the coming months.

Anyone know where we can go to hear the vocal talent of Miss Petocz. I’ve always been partial to the odd spot of indie / acid jazz type tunes and she sounds quite good.

She gets flown to Fuse Festival in Adelaide. a special music industry festival, plays for some of the biggest names in the Aus Music world. She also gets to do a songwriting workshop led by three of Australia’s top songwriters Rob Hirst and Jim Moginie both from Midnight Oil, together with Pete Arthur of Junior working on just her songs to “flesh it out”.

She then gets to record the ultimate version of her song working with triple j’s music producers and engineers and session musicians.
