Minister for Defence Robert Hill has announced in this media release ACT electronics company CEA Technologies is getting $30 million from the US and Aust govts to develop new Phased Array Radar technology.

If feel safer already. At least it shows that Canberra is staying in the technology race.

I guess its just a good thing its not an actual defence project….. their track record is not too good

Yay.

Nothing like the good old saying that 4 radars are better than one. (that’s phasing in a nutshell)

I can see the immediate benefit for the USA, but here in Aus we already tend to already have the skill to hit our targets, and given the massive expanse of nothing an enemy will have to cover to get to us, staying hidden will be all the more difficult. Four times as difficult I’d say…

It’s refreshing that we get to sell something to the Yanks for a change. Just as long as we don’t go giving it away to them, and the contract remains in Australia.

Give them a bit of revenge for all the Vietnam junk that they offloaded on us in the 70’s.

If only its acronym weren’t “PhART”, I’d feel more confident…
