Much like making sourdough starters and baking bread, indoor plants took off during the pandemic.

For those who are still looking to brighten up their home office or take up a new hobby, this weekend may be the perfect time to start with Canberra’s third online Rare Plant Party.

Instead of its usual pop-up stores, The Jungle Collective has organised to sell over 200 varieties of plants and succulents online, and it’s Canberra’s turn this weekend.

“Plants are a positive thing for people in times like this, you know, you are stuck at home or might not be working as much,” owner, Linda Vydra told Region Media.

“People might be doing a lot more gardening, so it has been important for us to keep offering that service.

“At the end of the day, we wanted to keep delivering plants.”

Canberrans will need to book a timeslot online for either today or tomorrow (7 or 9 November) to access the online shop. Plants can be delivered or picked up in Kingston the following Saturday (14 November) between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm.

But new botanists might want to think twice about buying a lot of rare plants if they haven’t had a lot experience with plants, Linda said.

“Often rare plants are harder to look after because they are slower growers, so they might be better suited to someone who is more of an avid plant person or knows how to care for them,” she said.

“Rare plants are ones that are a little bit hard to grow or if they are more of a slow grower most nurseries won’t have them.

“People get super excited about having something different and it is a talking point when your friends come round like ‘hey check out this plant’. It is about having that unique plant that is hard to find.”

The Jungle Collective is also hoping to re-open a physical store in the coming weeks as COVID-19 restrictions continue to ease.

“Predominately we are about having fun, creating a fun environment and making a fun day out for people so we do miss those physical interactions and we are excited to get back to those as well,” Linda said.

Well, given their last virtual sale in Canberra, we had the wrong items delivered (someone else’s order) and trying to contact anyone there to resolve the issue (just canned responses) for the past couple of weeks, I would avoid this company at ALL costs.

Hi Norton, Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with your delivery. Can I please grab your order number so we can contact you directly and check why the issue hasn’t been resolved.

HI Sharon JC, the order number is #128486. We’ve tried to contact via your Facebook messenger page AND via email but all we get is canned response that “we’ll look into it” or “we’ll pass onto the right department” with no resolution whatsoever.

Thank you for getting back to me. We have now looked into the issue of your delivery and emailed through a resolution. I do apologies that this isn’t what you’d expected or hoped for. Please reach out on email and we’d be happy to discuss any further concerns.
