Canberra's the hotdawg place to be

I have had my suspicions for a while now that former Big Brother housemate Simon “Hotdogs” Deering has chosen our fair city to escape from the low lights and sexual favours of Cairns.

First up the apparent compulsive famewhore (who else would go on BB?) joined other minor Canberra personalities on the stage of Westfield Belconnen to raise money for cancer.

A month later he turned up on RA martyr Samuel Gordon-Stewart’s blog in SGS’s coverage of Channel 10’s coverage of the Black Opal Stakes. It seems young Simon took time out from his busy late night schedule to report on the crowd and fashion at the Canberra racecourse.

Hmmm, said I, two ACT events in two months? This must be no coincidence. Alas the local White Pages had no mention of him and he seems to be the only person on the internet apart from myself who does not have a blog so, my web stalkering capabilities exhausted, I promptly forgot about it all.

Until this evening when, perusing the weekend’s papers, I discovered a kind of “where are they now” feature in the Sunday Canberra Times’ Relax section. The tagline of the piece reads

“Ingrid Jonach spoke to new Canberra resident Simon Deering, better known as Hotdogs, about life after reality TV”

It transpires he moved here last August and his show, The Up Late Game Show, is filmed at the Southern Cross Ten studios in Watson (one wonders is the screening of this counts as some of the regionally-produced content they have to provide). He has recently had his set upgraded from a bluescreen with wooden stool to one with a desk, bookcase and two plasma screens, all of which he thinks will boost his show’s credibility (keep in mind it screens at 12.30am).

The CT story also mentioned the controversial Hotdogs For Gold campaign run by The Spin Starts Here and others (which got picked up in the mainstream media at the time). Unfortunately for Mr Deering, the reach of TSSH does not go as far past the annual blog awards as they would have hoped and he was not nominated.

So where next for the ‘dogs? He hopes to one day develop a comedy skit show, saying he could see himself as a producer, not just in front of the camera. My hopes for Canberra’s newest minor celebrity? Well if any of you know how I can get in contact with him, I’d sure like to spring an RA email interview on him. And Mr Deering, if you’re reading this, do email me (kerces at gmail dot com will do nicely).

Does he like bananas? Does he like their soft, silky flesh? Does he cry with delight when his teeth sink into their potassium enriched goodness, girt as it is in skin so yellow that only the sun can shine with comparable goodness?

God, what a dick.

Well we can’t question him unless someone knows how to get in contact with him.

Natecv8 — you or your friend got an email or phone number?

Question 2 – See question one

I’ve had a friend/colleague deal with him recently and while I can’t really elaborate more I’m told he was an A-class D-list turd. Let’s hope he learns a little humility as there’s a million self-righteous turds obsessed with their importance in Canberra, and they have a lot more to show for it than he does.

Methinks its time he answered 10 questions from the RA crew.

I’ll start with “So who are you – and why should I know you ?”

Who cares – the show is set for losers who want to watch other losers in action. The contestants are typical media-pretty dumbarses who have nothing useful to say or do, except breed and bitch.

This is new information? Heck I was aware of ‘hotdogs’ living here since at late last year!
