The ACT’s top 10 restaurants have been unveiled at The Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards held last night in Sydney. The ACT results are:

  1. Monster
  2. Aubergine
  3. Eightysix
  4. Temporada
  5. Italian & Sons
  6. Farmhouse Restaurant at Pialligo Estate
  7. Capitol Bar & Grill
  8. Akiba
  9. Sage
  10. Ottoman Cuisine

Monster (79) and Aubergine (91) also featured in the top 100 restaurants nationally.

“The overall standard in this country, whether it’s in cafés, bars, casual eateries or the finest of diners, is on the up, and that’s a win for Australians who love eating out. It just goes to show that Australia is truly a great destination for people who love to eat, drink and have fun,” says GT chief restaurant critic, Pat Nourse.

“Our restaurant scene is so vibrant, diverse and exciting,” says GT editor, Anthea Loucas.

“It’s a real honour and a pleasure for us to be able to celebrate it through these awards, our restaurant guide and in every issue of Gourmet Traveller.”

Which local restaurants would you like to have seen on this year’s top 10 list?

My fave restaurant this year has been Black Fire…disappounted its not on the list!

Yeah I think Black Fire is pretty good and would be pushing on top 10.
I have been to most of the restaurants and the only one I would disagree with is Eightysix.
Overrated food and patronising service in my humble opinion but each to their own. I would also have Ottoman a bit higher.

Obviously I am not a gourmet or traveller because I have never heard of any of these places.
And that photo of the stuff in a bowl looks like the top layer of my composter.
I must be really missing out on something.

There’s always one in every crowd.

The Ottoman has been around for 25 years and Aubergine for close to 20. Where have you been? Come out from your hiding and treat yourself.

On review, I think I did go to that Ottoman one in Barton about 7 years ago. I have been saving up ever since for a return because it was nice.

+1 for Pod Food. I’ve had so many good meals out there. Certainly as good if not better food than the Pialligo Farmhouse just down the road. Was this a battle of the interior decorators?

I understand why in the fine dining scene places like Aubergine keep getting selected, I’ve eaten there several times myself, but can’t say I’ve enjoyed myself as they take themselves far too seriously.

I really hate that priestly waiter “explaining the food” to me. I am perfectly capable of working out whether it is good or not and what’s in it.

That set themselves up if it all turns out to be overblown hype, is it too often is.

Btw why is there such an under representation of anything not a la mode française? Even Ottoman is basically French with some Turkish elements.

I think that’s a fair assessment of the Canberra restaurant scene…….. would have liked to have seen pod food up there as I’ve been blown away by their dinners on multiple occasions.

I got 7 from 10 – the one I was most disappointed with sits in number 1.

Have a snack from your composter. I believe fermented food is very good for you.
