SPOTLIGHT ON CANDELO WHEN FESTIVAL COMES TO TOWN
The spotlight turns to Candelo on Saturday 19th March when one of the region’s newest but fastest growing music festivals comes to this charming village nestled in the hills of the Bega Valley.
With over 30 artists appearing from right across Australia and overseas, audiences can soak up a wicked brew of flavours from folk to rockabilly, jazz, rock, Indie, world, blues and reggae. There’s over 5 venues from the small and intimate to al fresco beats with the Big Top looming large once more as one of the most iconic features of the festival. Big names cranking up the party include Nathalie Natiembe (left) – who comes all the way from the Reunion Island with her joyful jazzy blend of French and Creole songs sure to transport you far away to another time and place. There’s Jeff Lang, one of Australia’s most formidable talents, the captivating and haunting David Ross MacDonald (right- of The Waifs), as well as some jumping fiddles with The Fuelers, some alt. country with Adelaide’s The Yearlings, Melbourne trio Daquqi and many many more.
Look out for some of Candelo region’s homegrown rising stars including Heath Cullen (centre) whose debut album received rave reviews from across the country; don’t miss Pete Wild as he teams up with the acclaimed folk virtuoso of Kate Burke and get set for The Leap which features leading local artists Jay McMahon, Marty Hibbert, Dave Hibbert and Greg Steele.
With children under 12 free, make sure you bring the little and the big kids with street theatre, lantern workshops, and lots of lively feel-good kids entertainment on offer throughout the day. Leave your teenager in the youth tent, there’s a blistering program of awesome artists as well as lots of great ops for young people who fancy themselves as the next Silverchair. And don’t miss out on one of the favourite must-see events of the festival – the Lantern Parade. As the sun sets on Candelo, the lantern parade will wind its twinkling, gorgeous, hand-made lanterns through the town.

Camping is also available over Friday and Saturday nights making this one very affordable festival with camping prices a mere $10 per site.
