Sadly no late dark horse entries when the nominees for the election were announced a bit after noon in the Theo Notaras function room on London Circuit.

The candidates you’ll note were sitting in left v. right array, Philip Pocock furthest to the right of all.

There were signs out on Civic Square inviting the public to come see.

notice board

Zed’s NSW registered Falcon Wagon had towed his signage to a nearby locale:

zed instead
phillip green

Around 5 past noon they kicked off.

So here’s the complete list of nominees:

Interesting points to my eye are:

    — Brindabell independent Calvin Pearce lists his employment as “Student”

    — Marion Le is only running candidates out in Belconnen

    — Chic Henry’s down as a “Sponsorship Consultant”

    — Long term Democrat Darren Churchill is running as an independent out in Belco too.

    — Norm Gingell self describes as “Aspiring MLA”, it would be sad if that’s the limit of his ambitions.

    — The Bullet Trainers have a Goldsmith running in Molonglo in Shelley Dickerson

    — The Liberal Democrats also have a Student in Molonglo in Trisha Jha

    — Phillip Pocock in Molonglo is still calling himself a Psychologist.

UPDATE 27/09/12 15:45: ElectionsACT now has some more statistics.

Also ACT Election 2012 has a picture of your correspondent lurking behind Philip Pocock.

I note that the Motorists seem to be running a pair of bouncers in Molonglo.

It’s good to know Happy Phil will be providing a reverse gold standard for candidates to aspire to!

..and as a libertarian, Trisha is surely in favour of gold standards 😉

Ah Poocockhead is standing for erection in Molonglo so if i run into him i’ll most certainly greet him with open arms and a finger or two!

I think if I saw him standing with an erection I’d run in the other direction.

Well that would be preferable to establishing a connection 🙂

Thanks Johnboy for the rap. %u201CAsprising MLA%u201D was all that would fit in the box on the Electoral Commission form. I had wanted to declare occupation as %u201Crecently retired from 3 decades of public policy work and thinks he has a clue as to why ACT politics is woeful%u201D. In a nutshell it%u2019s because there%u2019s so little rigor in policy development and citizens are usually consulted after positions are locked in.

As a sign of my conviction that good policy processes will lead to smarter government in the ACT, I%u2019ve undertaken to donate half my pay packet to ACT charities should Ginninderra voters elect me. Check me out at http://ngingell.wordpress.com.

At least I%u2019m prepared to have a go and to be independent of the established players. If by any chance I do get elected, I%u2019ll still have enough left pay left over to become a paying subscriber to RiotACT. And that%u2019s another promise.

You can subscribe anyway you know. You don’t have to be a politician to do so. Then if you write something stupid you have a few minutes to fix it up. It can be useful.

What and deprive us of a laugh, surely not?

I think Jethro was referring to Phil Pocock.

I hope so. But calling libertarians extreme right-wing bigots is a very common mistake, so I thought I’d nip it in the bud 😉

Out of interest, what are your views on fire arms?

Do you concur with the press release on the LDP web site dated 17 August 2010 that gun buy backs amounted to ‘the confiscation of hundreds of thousands of firearms from law-abiding shooters, at a cost of a billion dollars, and the imposition of draconian gun laws.’ and that ‘The LDP has pro-shooter policies that no other party can match’?

As for the candidates list announcement, I see Gulia Jones is running against (although the signs on the Parkway were a bit of a giveaway I guess). Perhaps time to set limits to the number of times you can run in elections, I note she has moved from Canberra, to Tasmania, and back, to run repeatedly. There’s something wrong with professional candidates.

Maybe she’d have more success if she changed her name to Julia with a J. Or, alternatively, Gulia Gulia.

Alliteration has been demonstrated to add at least 2 percentage points to a candidate’s vote count. Of course, deceent policies would also help.

Good luck Trisha. I would hope Elections ACT would change Pocock’s description from ‘Psychologist’ to ‘Perspective Mental Health Patient’ in time for polling day.

It’s good to know Happy Phil will be providing a reverse gold standard for candidates to aspire to!

At least it will let us know what percentage of Canberrans are extreme right-wing bigots.

Feminist, atheist, brown women generally don’t make for good bigots. Sorry to disappoint you.

I think Jethro was referring to Phil Pocock.

Interesting that Pocock never lists his address as Northbourne Flats. Feeling a bit guilty about only paying $250 a week whilst charging $150+ an hour for his “services” & asking for donations on his website maybe? He must have a good stash seeing he doesn’t drink, smoke, gamble, have a wife, kids or pets & rides a pushbike!

Also props to zed sending out the bogan wagon viciously beeping in quiet areas!

I was thinking of voting for the Greens, as I share many of their values and Shane and Al in particular are likeable, highly capable people, but now that I see none of the Greens candidates live anywhere near my suburb, I’m reconsidering this as inner north (or Gungahlin issues in the case of Merlin) issues are very different from those in my end of Molonglo. Can you really understand the voters if you don’t live among them?

Too much attention is currently paid to the inner north – Gungahlin axis anyway. Too many MLAs from there only exacerbates the imbalance

What is the real story behind Chick’s demotion ha he was all cylinders ?

Something to do with the order of nomination. Not relevant with Robson rotation anyway.

I can pretty much forgive the independent running for Brindabella who lives in Isaacs (may well work, shop, commune in Brindabella), but someone from Charnwood?

No.

(on several levels…)

Don’t voters expect people to live in the electorates they are standing in? So many candidates in electorates other than Molonglo are living in the inner north!

BTW JB, do you, by any chance, venture out into Tuggers on occasion?
Either that, or I saw a JB look-alike out there today! 🙂

Shhh. This one’s the clone, but he doesn’t know it.

Interesting that some candidates live no where near the electorate they are running in.

What I notice is that a pretty large number (in the order of 50%) of candidates don’t actually live in the area they wish to represent.

Not, this isn’t the biggest thing in a place like the ACT, with only three electorates, and a mix of socio-economic groups, services, etc in each – BUT, I would love to hear from some of the candidates as to why they are not running in the area they live?

Yeah noticed that also. I wonder how they expect to put forward things that are truly local to an area in the electorate if they live no where nearby. Overall ACT policy not a big deal, but when it comes down to say developments in a particular area, transport and schools, I’d like to think the candidates live in the area and are just as affected as everyone else.

“The Bullet Trainers have a Goldsmith running in Molonglo…”

Gold!

On occasion, but not today.

This is a bit simplistic. The ALP and Libs generally live amongst the people they claim to speak for (or want to speak for). Marion Le’s party all live in their electorate (if Casey is in Gininderra).

The Greens sitting MLAs and Bullet Train for Canberra candidates all prefer inner Canberra. Perhaps that’s why they promote trams and trains and bikes, even though it’ll never happen for those of us in the outer burbs.

Other than that, we do seem to have a 50//50 split.

I also would like to hear why they think they can represent people from somewhere they would not deem fit live in.

Ah Poocockhead is standing for erection in Molonglo so if i run into him i’ll most certainly greet him with open arms and a finger or two!

Surely there is no need to publish addresses. If they give them to the Electoral Commission then that is sufficient. There are enough odd people out there. My address is easy enough to find, but I wouldn’t want it published.

If you check the AHPRA website Philip Pocock is a registered psychologist, so he isn’t calling himself one he is one….

What a depressing sight.

Awesome, go the Bullet Train!

Has anyone seen their TV ad?

Interesting that 2 have their addresses suppressed – both Libs … Hmmmmmmmm

Actually JB, unless my eyes deceive me he’s listed as a “pyschologist”, and thus may have given himself a loophole should anyone call him on it. “Pish -cologist” sounds more accurate too, given his backstory. {/pedant}

“– Phillip Pocock in Molonglo is still calling himself a Psychologist.”

I’d say that the first six letters of that title are about right.
