The Woden Plaza had to be evacuated not to long ago because the Dusk Candle shop caught on fire…

Luckily no one was injured…

And Emergency Services tells us the fire is now out, and the area is being ventilated.

[ED – my Woden source texted it in as “Epic fire at woden. hazmat and all”. Anyone get pictures? images@the-riotact.com. And is it just me or is Woden having a lot of these lately?]

I think the insurance premiums for businesses with flammable names has just doubled after two incidents in one week.

All a bit exciting..

Jeremy someone a lib candidate thought he was oh so funny, and ran around ambus=ing evacuees with his pamphlets saying “I sear I didn’t start the fire”

Got some pics of the trucks with flashing lights and stuff, but nothing really that interesting.

Wait for it, people will be complaining about the evacuation causing trauma due to their shopping schedule being interrupted…

Maybe the drill a couple of weeks ago helped everyone to get out the building safely !

my wife used to work at centre management at the hyperdome, she was amazed at the number of people who would just wander around – ignoring the sirens, the people herding everyone out of the building etc just because they hadn’t finished their lunch / shopping etc.

a couple of people got abusive, as they didn’t want to leave on one particular evac, but as it was a bomb threat, they were lucky that the cm staff actually paid attention to them, and escorted them out.

me, personally, if I was told there might be a bomb in a building, stuff the shopping.

lucky it was a hoax, but shopping centres don’t try to second guess the callers in the slim chance it is real.

at least woden plaza evac was a controlled exit.

Or an arsonist trying but failing to set the candle shop on fire.

Irony would be a fire extinguisher shop burning down.

Sorry bubzie
Irony’s something different
Like rain on your wedding day

oh my god..wow, the irony!!

Yep, if i was in Woden Plaza i’d be backing up all my files, and double checking those papers.

I was there half an hour ago – firies gone, extractor fans turned up to Deafening, people wandering aimlessly, cops grabbing their hard earned lunch at Oporto – so situation normal…

Oh and I was disappointed there was no scented smell throughout!

First Flames Fitness destroyed by fire, now the Candle Shop burns. If I owned a Burning Log store I’d be checking my insurance was up to date.

Sorry, I did have a camera but didn’t get any shots. Big event though, heaps of fire brigade including the “bronto” platform on Corinna St and near the Woolies loading dock. Also present were at least 7 police cars doing a good job of blocking up Corinna St. Very large crowds of evacuees around Dick Smith, the interchange and along Corinna St, around 600 or so, as well as heavy traffic exiting the plaza carparks through the open boom gates… Free parking everyone!

Isn’t this the 6th time that Woden has been evacuated this year? Crazy.
