Capt'n Snooze logo
My colleagues and I were having a discussion: the talk drifted from the movie Feast to Watchman to exploding people to instead just putting them to sleep onto the Spiderman villain Sandman (made of sand) then to the Capt’n Snooze guy.

I would like to find a picture of Capt’n Snooze to remember exactly what he looked like and I am not having any luck…can anyone help?

Do you remember? The one with the red hat and beard (if my memory serves me correctly). Was he a local creation? We remembered the ads being pretty homemade. The company is just called Snooze now.

Rod Quantock[ED – Snooze is now a national franchise with, according to their website, over 70 stores nation wide. It’s 30 years old and, after consulting with the Riot Ancients, can confirm that it was in Canberra at least near the beginning so it may have had its roots here. Capt’n Snooze was none other than Rod Quantock.]

Updated – Big thanks to H1NG0 for locating the below Youtube clip!

Rod Quantock is still a fairly successful comedian – he is a Melbournian, which is perhaps why you don’t hear of him much. http://quantock.com.au/

(Captain) Snooze was started in Melbourne, also, but is now part of a large multi-national. Spend 30 seconds reading their website http://www.snooze.com.au/ (you lazy sods!)

Well I didnt read that bit…on purpose actually…I had to link the article to Canberra somehow you see 😛

I should So go and see him after all this (and take the pic for him to sign)! LOL.

Surely I’m not the only one who can remember Rod’s 83-84 comedy sketch show “Australia, you’re standing in it”?

Didn’t he recently do a political comedy show in Canberra? He’s a nice guy. Met him in a doctor’s waiting room when I was a kid.

H1NGO – haha, well done! You found him! I knew the internet had everything 😀

Hes…not wearing pants…

Oooh! Chunky Custard!

Off to search youtube…

Yeah he was a pretty good comedian (he was a regular on the first incarnation of Good News Week).

Thank you everyone especially ED for finding the picture of Rod (so no one can find hat version – I guess it’s a pretty challenging request…perhaps he requested they all be removed forever or they nwere pre-internets?). Surely someone has a picture of him on a bedding package…perhaps we should do the world a favour and find a picture to be a legacy on the internet? 😛
I don’t know why Rod would be so upset…he achieved some kind of fame afterall. Was he funny as a comedian?

‘cos you can’t trademark a name with a rank in it.

Lies. Don’t present assumption as fact.
“Cap’n Snooze” the phrase, the word-logo with the hat on it, and a whole bunch of variants were and still are Registered Trademarks here in Australia and internationally.
“Snooze” is just classier and reflects current branding identity.

If you really want to see how many Trademarks are owned or exercised by JWC (INT) Limited (owners of “Cap’n Snooze” and the rest) go check IPAustralia’s ATMOSS database.
Enter as Guest, select Advanced Search from the left side menu , then search by NAME: Owner JWC Part AND (INT) Part.

I’ll always remember him as the guy that showed us how our 8c a day was spent at the ABC.

Apparently Rod Quantock has said that he hates having been Capt’n Snooze now. 30 year career in comedy, and he can’t walk down the street without people saying “Hey, it’s Captain Snooze!”

‘cos you can’t trademark a name with a rank in it.

I would like to know why the Captain lost his rank.
