Burnt out car

This was the scene visitors the Tuggeranong Hyperdome carpark were confronted with yesterday afternoon: a burnt out car surrounded by cinders and police tape.

One of our readers sent the photo through via our Facebook page and we contacted ACT Policing to find out what happened.

A spokesman said investigations were ongoing.

“About 12.50am on Sunday police attended Tuggeranong Hyperdome carpark following a report that a vehicle was on fire,” he said.

“ACT Fire and Rescue attended and extinguished the fire.”

No one was seriously injured in the incident.

A spokesman for Vicinity Centres issued this statement:

“The management of Tuggeranong Hyperdome is assisting the Australian Federal Police with their investigation, after what is believed to be a stolen car was set alight in the basement car park. The incident occurred at 12.30am on Sunday 1st November. Hyperdome security has provided the AFP with all CCTV available.”

Does setting fire to a car in a mall amount to anything other than terrorism?

Terrorism? Really? Why in the world would it be considered terrorism? Lets just jump to the most sensationalist conclusion, pull out the T word and whip up a frenzy!

There are a myriad of scenarios which have nothing to do with terrorism. Enraged spouse, kids taking Halloween pranks too far, just general wanton vandalism, gang violence, personal vendettas….all far more likely than terrorism.

Dog whistles are ugly when used on people…

Who drives a stolen car into a mall with cctv. only to light it on fire at night to have the centre evacuated. parked right at the doors of the centre. it seems the sole purpose was to make a point of it. that by definition is terrorism.

That, by definition, is not terrorism. Do not be afraid, it’s just another night in Tuggers.

Ill see your 2009 Tuggeranong and raise a 2014 Belconnen.

Another in Barton

This kind of thing often has nothing to do with the attributes of people living in Tuggeranong or Barton, as generally offenders ‘do not … in their own backyard.’

…although offenders do tend to make an exception for Charnwood.

That’s the truth.
You just reminded me of this:
http://www.smh.com.au/national/bikie-death-man-charged-with-murder-amid-fears-gang-war-has-hit-canberra-20090324-98wo.html

“A 20-year-old man from Chisholm has been charged with two counts of murder and is expected to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court about 9am today.
…..
[bold]A witness said she had heard the shots but had dismissed it as usual, neighbourhood noise[/bold].”

Don’t look at me. I never go near the Hyperdome. 🙂

That’s a wise policy as there are lots of evil cars parked under there making shopping oh, soooooo convenient.

Quick grab that spot before anyone else does!

How much worse will this all get if we have all this at the mere suggestion of Light Rail?

The carmageddon is nigh.

Just car people doing what car people do. In car parks.

Do you see the nefarious Black Hand of Light Rail behind this?

The shadowy forces of Light Rail seem to be responsible for everything, including the consequences of years of building freeways and car parks. The mere thought of it has brought on an immanent local GFC!

The BMW was lit up around 1 am. The limelight cinema was evacuated at around 1:30 for late night Halloween screening of rocky horror. The whole building was full of smoke and there was no access to the bottom car park to get cars till 2:30.
Was just glad our car wasn’t close enough to be damaged, about two rows away from the burning car.

Don’t look at me. I never go near the Hyperdome. 🙂
