Ripping yarn in the AFP’s media releases today involving deception, intrigue, theft and car accidents.

Police allege the story started when some of the seven male teenagers involved inspected a 1996 Holden Commodore SS at a car yard, and subsequently managed to switch the keys from this car with those of another, similar vehicle at the same yard.

“With the switched keys to the car in their possession, two of the group allegedly returned to the yard later that night and stole the vehicle,” runs the story. This was the cue for a night of chaos, including allegedly tripping red light and speed cameras across Canberra and stealing a tank of petrol from a Phillip service station.

Police allege that after this, the boys picked up some of their friends (presumably the other five thought to be involved) and headed out to the Cotter, “where the driver lost control at high speed when rounding a bend, ran off the road, over an embankment, became airborne and crashed into trees”. Police later found the burnt-out car where it had been dumped.

Five of the offenders have been formally charged and either appeared in court and bailed or in custody awaiting a court appearance. The remaining two offenders are sought by police and will be interviewed shortly.

Very few cunning plans involve getting airborne and sideways out in the cotter.

then again when 7 boys and a stolen car are involved they probably should

what i dont get is they allegedly “swapped” keys with another similar vehicle at the SAME YARD?

Was the Yardies skull filled with porridge?

its just that every morning and every night there is a Key audit and all cars are locked with the Metal Keys just to be sure that that old scam doesnt work at night. Obviously it would work if the opposing cars wernt at the same yard , and I have seen this actually happen but at the same yard seems unlikely though.

Most good yardies also know how many keys came with the car and this includes radio fobs as well.

so those boyos must have had one fluky window of opportunity is all I can say.I Pity those who would have lost/ in danger of losing thier jobs as a result of those idiots . Would have been some serious questions to the yardsman and the last salesman in contact with the car.

those Involved need a good kicking up the khyber cos that where thier brains are located obviously.

They’ll get a GBB and a slap on the wrist….

Well it did, they got the car, they just were bad drivers. Allegedly.

That is quite a clever little trick they employed
