Carney Carney Carney

News.com’s man in Kigali has tracked down Todd Carney and had a chat.

It seems the reason he isn’t playing football in the grim North of England is because, for some reason, the UK High Commission here in Canberra is dragging its heels about issuing the young fellow with a visa.

It could be one of these reasons:

It all amounts to a rap sheet longer than the tattoo that covers his right arm. There have been drink-driving charges, nightclub dramas, a police pursuit, brawls, warnings and arrests.

Or maybe it’s something else. Anyway it’s an insightful interview. Well worth reading even if you’ve just been following the saga from the edges.

Q. Todd Carney, are you an alcoholic? A. “No,” he replies with rare clarity and confidence.

…I just sort of black out. There’s been plenty of mornings I’ve woken up and not had a clue what happened the night before.

…A mate smashed the door, but Carney was handcuffed and arrested on suspicion of committing the crime.

What do they about alcoholics?! I’m sure it has something to do with denial. I’m also they say something about blacking out and not remembering what happened the night before etc etc.

Whats amazing is he CAN remember that it was NEVER his fault, and it was also his “mates”. I would say to his mates, perhaps it’s time to find a REAL mate – but I suspect they are just as dumb as he is.

Just follow the story link.

To be fair it looks like the kid is carrying smaller bricks. But with much greater aplomb.

I wonder when he decided to go to Rwanda and help build houses. After he got in trouble again and he couldn’t get his visa to the UK? Or, Is it that he really is a top bloke that is just misunderstood , and was always going to help out?

I also like the pic where he is seen flexing his muscles carrying 3 bricks. The caption in the pic is something along the lines of Todd doing it hard yakka… However the little skinny Rwandan kid that looks about 12 years old is carrying the same amount of bricks.

Where are these pics you speak off? I could use a bit of a chuckle right now.

And I believe it was all organised by his manager.

A man who can see a train wreck coming from a long way out…

believe that he signed up for this over 12 months ago, along with the other players involved

I can answer that one…I believe that he signed up for this over 12 months ago, along with the other players involved.

I’d love to know how…

“…I do have a problem with alcohol and when I get drunk.”

&

“I suppose you could say I need to drink to socialise. Honestly, if I went out sober I wouldn’t have fun.”

=

“Todd Carney, are you an alcoholic? “No,” he replies.”

Sounds like multiple-personality disorder to me.

From dictionary.com:

alcoholism: a chronic disorder characterized by dependence on alcohol, repeated excessive use of alcoholic beverages, the development of withdrawal symptoms on reducing or ceasing intake, morbidity that may include cirrhosis of the liver, and decreased ability to function socially and vocationally.

So he’s self-reporting all of the above except for the withdrawals and cirrhosis (which he may or may not have). Would be interesting to see a recent LFT result.

Thumper, I hate to be pedantic, but it’s spelt: ‘nut-case’.

“I hate to be pedantic” — I LIE!
