Police believe Canberra will continue to see violent clashes between bikie gangs after a targeted drive-by attack in Kambah in the early hours of this morning (4 February).

Around 1:30 am, emergency services were called to Harrington Circuit, Kambah after three cars were set alight and shots were fired into a Kambah home.

AFP Forensics examined the scene and located a small number of spent casings and damage to the garage consistent with a firearm being discharged. No one was reported as injured in the incident.

Police believe the attack was a targeted incident related to outlaw motorcycle gang activity.

Detective Superintendent Moller said there were a number of people, including children, in the house when the attack took place and said it was fortunate no one was injured. Police said the people in the home are known to police and have gang affiliations, but would not elaborate on which of the four gangs they were associated with.

Detective Superintendent Moller said police were dedicated to disrupting bikie activity but warned that violence between bikie gangs will continue.

“The establishment of any club in any jurisdiction is difficult and brings more violence to the town they are in. Any new club coming into town will have an impact on the other clubs,” he said.

“[The] Outlaw motorcycle gang world is fluid and people move between clubs quite frequently so we are going to get this interaction quite often.

“We will be doing everything we can to discourage any further attacks as we have done previously and we will keep working to stop them.”

Detective Superintendent Moller said the Taskforce was investigating whether the recent attack was linked to the arrival of the Satadurah bikie gang and the recent attack at Oaks Estate.

In the past 12 months, ACT Policing’s Taskforce Nemesis has laid 78 charges against 29 criminal gang members and executed 101 search warrants. The Taskforce has also seized 1,480 rounds of ammunition, 20 weapons, and two vehicles related to criminal gang activity.

Detective Superintendent Moller said police’s dedicated bikie taskforce had quite a substantial team, which had been bolstered in the past 6 months.

“The Taskforce has a proactive and reactive element and the officers are dedicated to their task,” he said. “They work very hard and they have done substantial work to try and alleviate this situation and they will keep doing it.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam or CCTV footage from around the time of the incident can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.

Thanks ACT Labor for letting these scumbags roam free and shoot up houses in residential suburbs. Change the laws or the Liberals will get voted in, you’re losing support after each bikie related attack.

Read about the recent complaint by ACT Police about their lack of numbers.

What does blaming Labor have to do with it. Liberal is in charge at the moment and even poor People get attacked for no good reason from other drug nuts. Nothing to do with Bikie shooting! I heard about this on the Monday afternoon at a meetup which was interesting it was. At least I don’t live in Harrington circuit

When will Canberrans ever wake up? We all know that, given the rise in violent firearm incidents involving bikie gangs, someone is likely to get injured or, worse, killed and that person is just as likely to be an innocent bystander/neighbour etc. Do you think the Barr Government cares? No – it’s about time Canberrans understood that bikie gangs are important as union muscle and thus enjoy the support of this government. Just remember this when next you come to vote for an ACT Government: this government will always put its sectoral interests ahead of you. Why does Canberra keep returning this government?

Because of a lack of an alternative government.

I find it rather amusing that the Liberals as the party of “individual freedom” are so quick to want to remove those freedoms when they’re unable to solve a problem.

And of course the police love more and more powers that make their jobs easier and give them more leeway.

Who could possibly see anything going wrong with preventing people from freely associating with others in this way. That kind of thing has never caused problems historically….

I do get where you are coming from about rights and freedoms, it is a valid concern. But I also think any new laws could be reasonably restricted to Motorcycle Gangs, Terrorists and those who deal or make illegal Drugs.

I think if you had this level of criminal activity occurring in your own street, you would be a bit less worried about the gang members freedom and be a bit more worried about your own safety and wellbeing.

But you are more than welcome to promote ‘individual freedom’ and invite a Motoycycle gang chapter to set up shop next door to you, I’m sure your other neighbours would love your stand for a free and open society. (I am just ribbing you of course)

BJ,
I’ve lived in those areas and heard the regular gunshots and police sirens.

I used to drive past one of the Bikie clubhouses daily.

Doesn’t change my opinion that these are bad laws and open to clear abuse by those in power. They won’t stop at Bikies, Drug Dealers or terrorists if you could even define them adequately.

It’s all about taking the lazy option of banning.

Former AFP Commissioner Keelty wanted to decriminalise drugs same as has been successful overseas. Take those large amounts of drug money out of the criminals reach.

Never mind, it’s all a beat-up. The ACT Gummint has considered this and upholds the bikies’ “Rights” to free association which should not be restricted by consideration of the rights of other citizens to live in peace and safety. The Police should tread carefully lest they infringe the bikies Rights. I’d like to know how the ACT Gummint is going to treat things when an innocent bystander-neighbour is injured or killed.

My father and step mother left their rental in Carter Cres Calwell after years of Motorcycle gang issues in that street. They moved instead to a rental in Kambah.

I am left to wonder if my elderly father who supplements his pension with some part time shop assistant work, is actually some Harley Davidson King Pin, who catches the bus to hide his cover and wears 30 year old pants and fully buttoned long sleeve business shirts to cover the long hidden tattoos.

Nah it’s just a fact of life for those living in certain parts of Tuggeranong. What sad state of affairs has led to 5 outlaw motorcycle gangs setting up headquarters in Canberra.

It’s all happened on Labor’s watch.

There have been some very nasty home invasions recently too which have not been widely reported.
