Cashews CD launch one heck of a party

Saturday night at Corroboree Park in Ainslie The Cashews CD launched reached Olympian heights as a contender for the title of the best party ever.

Late in the night things got crazy when I gazed at the sky and saw an alarming slew of new lights in the firmament. Fortunately, before I spread alarm, Amber explained that the right sort of eucalypt can reflect star or moonlight in appropriate conditions.

At a time when Min Mae’s Tableaux Vivant was fresh in our minds (the most beautiful people in Canberra getting naked in a pose, but you need to earn that image for yourselves babies) it was a big deal.

Having said that huge kudos to Andrew Walker for successfully popping the question to Nicole in front of the heaving throng.

Huge congrats to the Canberra Musicians Club (CMC) and the Cashews for putting together such a great show.

For a feel of a wonderful night check out the slideshow below. I could tell you more but why not turn up to the next CMC event and see it for yourself?

UPDATE The above was written about 4am after 12 hours of heavy drinking so I’m rather pleased about how it came out.

But… If you took pictures of the night and would like them included in the slideshow email them in to images@the-riotact.com – Thanks so far to SamTSeppo, Laurel_Waits and Overheard.

It was lovely to meet so many RiotACT readers on the night, even if you are all better looking and more intelligent than I am.

Finally, very keen to get your impressions of the night in the comments.

Thanks all.

Had a bad experience taking the happy snaps, JB?!

ie: IIRC people hoovering charlie tend to smash up cameras taking pictures of them.

Regular or diet.

BTW (is that the way you crazy kids write it?) I’m reliably informed by a brightly-coloured-haired Cashew that if you’re looking for a copy of the album (‘Small Ponds’ by The Cashews) it’s available at Landspeed Records and Smith’s Bookshop in the city, and online at http://www.myspace.com/acousticnuts

Actually, apropos of acronyms, WTF does IIRC mean?! I see it all the time here and still haven’t WIO.

Maybe you need to invite me to these better ones then?

Saturday 30th, Tuggeranong, fancy dress party, 70 people, free grog, large bowl of coke on the dining room table. 8pm-6am. Breakfast included.

I love the Cashews — and the communities they nuture. Canberry is pretty spesh’, huh 🙂

(perhaps some of you need to get in touch with each other off-forum — just an idea)

Danman, just remember that Eyeball showed up to try and whiteknight for the Tharwa Drive girl and defend defacing property as a valid form of grief.

Hint: Before you leave high school, it might be worth learning that insults aren’t constructive criticism, and your lack of élan means we’re not about to start paying more attention or giving any weight to your comments, Eyeball.

Her? No.

High School? Before you developed teeth.

I didn’t show up for anyone or anything.

I don’t particularly care about dead girls and their friends and what they do with their lives. Especially when it doesn’t concern me, or you.

I’m just amused by all the bitching and whining over nothing.

Paint on the footpath? It’s even less of a concern than mythical terrorist groups and bird flu.

Now, back to the music…..

Cheers JB but it is pretty obvious re their other posts that they are not here to contribute in a constructive manner.

Warning heeded 🙂

Careful Dan, EIAQJOS is quickly working itself into the mod queue (take that as your warning EIAQJOS), no need to drag yourself down to their level.

you sound like quite the w@nker there eyeball…

I guess you were to busy with the tissue box in front of (Insert any of the numerous internet pornography sites here)

I’m sorry I couldn’t make it guys, but I was too busy not listening to a hundred other similar uninspiring folk groups.

It’s just what I do.

Looks like a good night. What kind of music was it ?

Hey fabforty, if you go to the Cashews Myspace site, you can hear six of their songs, including the fabulous ‘h.u.g.’ and ‘things you do’: http://www.myspace.com/acousticnuts

Scroll down to their friends and you’ll find links to pages for some of the other acts that were playing on the night.

Enjoy!

So many of my photos, and one of my shoes… Should’ve done up those laces…

Folk rock cabaret?

All sorts basically although the electronic and metal genres were somewhat under-represented.

Looks like a good night. What kind of music was it ?

Due to my current melbourne living situation I’m very sad to have missed it, but I’d like to pass on my congrats to Walker and Boxy, and big hugs to Alison and everyone else! Looks like you all had a phat one!

Very much fun was had….my first time in a tableaux too!! Great night.

’twas a lovely night!

A damned good time. When’s the next?

You all looked smaller in real life than than I thought!

I can’t believe they torched the pen!s, I mean, big cashew. They should have put it by the roadside as an ‘installation’. Could have funded the difficult second album.

I did a double-take there for a minute. The Cashews gig was being extensively covered yesterday by multiple cameras from the media crew from the CIT, and I thought, wow, they’re going to be on ABC2??!!

But I’ve caught up now.

I played ‘Tuggeranong Parkway’ off the album this morning on air especially for all the Tuggeranites, and the indicator users and abusers of all walks and drives!

Also double booked, sadly…

In Sydney watching Keating the musical. Which incidentally, is brilliant!

Next CMC event and I’m there, considering I’m a premium member or whatever 😉

thanks, thumper, it is on abc2 this wednesday night. glad I didn’t miss it – but had a good night in with the kids…

Yes, ’twas a fine eve… Fantastic vibe and amazing to see the depth and breadth of talent that the ACT has to offer. The evening tasked Canberra bands to cover the songs on the Cashew’s new album – mixed in with circus displays, sentimental piano pieces, people wearing koala outfits, a craft area, freakbikers and friendly folk chatting away surrounding the fires out the front.

Canberra really rocks.

Great shots, JB. Sadly I was double-booked and had to spear off straight after the wonderfully impromptu number by the guests of honour on top of the wobbly table at the back of the bar. ‘Boys and girls, who can spell “OH&S”????’

Couple of pics of said number: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ovhrprod

If anyone’s up and about this fine sunny Sunday morning, I’ll be playing a couple of Cashews tracks on ‘Patchwork’ from 10am on Artsound. 92.7FM, 90.3FM in Tuggeranong.
