Cat killer in Evatt???

By evattlocal 7 April 2013 85

So, I’m new to RiotAct but am hoping that someone will have some information on a alleged cat killer in Evatt.

My neighbour has advised that two of her cats have recently been found in ‘mass cat grave’ [20 cats] in an Evatt park discovered by an ACT ranger.

Has anyone heard of this?

Looking for any information as I have a cat …. and there does seem to be a lack of cats in the neighbourhood at the moment.

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

What’s Your opinion?

i think pet lovers need to separate ‘pet’ from ‘feral’ they are both animals. killing an animal doesn’t make you a sociopath. man has been hunting animals for millennia, and i’d posit we are not a race of sociopaths.

If a cat roams into someone yard and kills native wildlife or poultry, its no longer under the owners control. our blue heeler roamed into a farmers paddock and started to round up his sheep. she was delivered back to us with a stern warning about a more permanent solution to recidivist behaviour. escaped dogs go feral and kill sheep, as cats outside their owners sight will happily kill native wildlife for sport.

all cats should be inside cats and if outside, confined to cat runs. if caught outside the owners property the fine should be substantial, as we have seen discussed on RA – a form of ‘idiot tax’.

What a horrible thread. It makes me sad that people don’t understand the very close relationship people have with their pets.

I have helped out many lost animals and returned them to their owners etc. Pets run around from time to time no matter how hard you try to keep them inside. Cats need a lot of room unless they are raised inside from the start.

I have two, one adopted from neighbours who moved. Everyone in my neighbourhood knows them and many people have commented on how much they enjoy them. I also watch out for their pets when needed. If my pets do any damage or bother anyone all they have to do is come talk to me about it. Please don’t hurt them just because they are being animals. I’ll do my best to work things out.

Killing someone’s pet is a despicable act and often times a precursor of sociopathic behaviour. It’s certainly not something to laugh about. Remember, the type of person who does such a thing won’t think twice about robbing or hurting you either.

Yes. Exactly. That is exactly why I have no sympathy for cat owners who let their animals roam the streets. It’s because they DO kill my pets. They come into MY yard and attack MY animals. If you want to keep a cat, lock the damn thing up.
I don’t kill cats, but I do sometimes use cat traps. If a cat comes into my yard, I’m perfectly within my rights to trap it and take it to the rspca where the owner has to pay a fee to get it back.

I have no problems with what you do to ensure your pets are safe in your backyard. My issue is the psychos on this site who are happy to hunt down and kill other people’s pets (including cats)

If there weren’t so many bloody irresponsible cat owners out there we wouldn’t even be having this discussion!

I’m a cat person, could you tell? I just try not to denigrate dog owners for having a differing opinion, even if there are a multitude of reasons why owning a dog is just as bad as having a cat I don’t really want to get into them unless someone wants to pick a fight over it.

I’m not a dog owner, and I have some problems with them too.
The main difference is that dog owners are obliged to keep their animals locked up. For some reason this is optional for cat owners.
It shouldn’t be. If you have a pet, that’s fine. But you have an obligation to keep your pet confined.

GFY (The ‘G’ is for ‘go’ and the ‘Y’ if for ‘yourself’, you can figure the rest out). It’s interesting that most people don’t have a goddamn clue about the kind of creatures cats ACTUALLY kill. And I’m talking about feral cats here, domestic cats aren’t even worth noting compared to feral cats, but most of the animals cats kill are introduced species themselves, namely rats, mice, pigeons and rabbits.

People like to justify their hatred of cats by pretending to be butt-hurt about all the immeasurable damage done to native fauna by ferals, but the fact is that the damage is measurable and is not that much, these people just happen to have a mouthful of opinions and a head full of shite.

Really? So I’ve just imagined them killing the local parrots then? Or the cats in my backyard killing my ducklings? Or my canaries? Or my cockatiel?
They might kill lots of “pests”, but they don’t discern between pet pests and feral pests. My friend’s cat once brought home a beheaded guinea pig. They’re perfectly happy to kill native birds.
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
Lock it up.

Murdering other peoples pets should not be condoned or tolerated. It’s sick.

Exactly. And people who don’t lock their cats up should be criminally charged for the wildlife and pets they kill.
Lock them up. They don’t belong on the streets.

There is one BIG difference between cat owners and any other pet owner.
Cats can get out of the backyard and wander wherever and whenever they like. Birds, dogs, ferrets, mice, guinea pigs, horses, fish and almost any other pet you can think of is protected by its owner by being prohibited egress with some form of fence or barrier. Cat owners obviously don’t care a great deal that their predatory beast can wander off into anybody’s yard, onto the road, into reserves and parks and do whatever they like. Do cat owners go around with a poop bag and pick up the droppings? NO. But it is illegal for dog owners to let faeces be deposited on public land. Cats can breed as much as they like if not “fixed” with whoever they please and spread of disease is not controlled in any fashion. Do you know where your cat has been and who it’s been in contact with?
Cats should be confined the same as any other pet for their own protection. Maybe if more dogs were roaming the streets there’d be no need for this vigilante.

Wow, so you mean I’m imagining all that dog s*** on my front yard and next to nearly every path in the ACT?

And the next time I see a dog wandering off leash, I should just kill it for the communities sake?

Yes! If it was in my front or backyard I’d seriously consider doing something, especially if it had left droppings there time and time again, or barked under my window at 3 in the morning or tried to grab the fish from my pond. I have no specific prejudice against cats, just anything that intrudes on/or damages my property. How is it that all these felines have been caught? Obviously there must have been a trap. Wherever the trap may have been set, if it wasn’t in the yard of the owners of the victims, I can’t see that there is any problem. If all the cats had been run over by cars, intentionally or accidentally, there wouldn’t be a witch hunt, they’d all just get over it as part of life [the owners that is, not the cats – at least not after the eighth time].

So there are special laws prohibiting the keeping of egrets?
Oh wait. Sorry – carry on.

Commandant Luftwaffe would be a more appropriate nickname, in my most humble of opinions.

Ha Ha, I agree….the only good cat, is a dead cat.

My dog hates the little buggers.

P.S Top Cat is the exception.

I’d kill your dog. I don’t hate dogs, but I’d be more than happy to gut one if it meant its hypocrite of an owner got an inkling of what it felt like to lose a pet to senseless violence.

For everyone who says cat owners are to blame for keeping their cats inside, I might take few lambshanks seasoned with ratsak on a long drive to throw over the fences of people who don’t keep their damn barking dogs inside.

Except in reality I wouldn’t do any of these things because I’m not a shite-brained, narcissistic, psychopath like Captain RAAF, Frustrated and the like.

At least 5 cats have gone missing from my street in hughes in the last few weeks. Not sure if they were out at night, I do not like cats and what they do to native animals but feel sorry for the owners. Keep them inside

Close your shed door. It’s just as likely to be possum wee.

Killing cats today, stabbing humans at the bus stop tomorrow. If it was my area I would be very afraid.

When I lived in Evatt the local kids were out of control, riding dirt bikes in the park, smashing bottles in the playgrounds.. While their big brothers raced cars through the streets with their mates from McKellar. Looks like they have grown up into little psychopaths.

Ha, that’s hilarious! I’ve been killing cats for 20 years (I do not live in Evatt) and am yet to graduate to humans. Tho some of the morons here are getting close…..

Now this thread is complete.

Hahahaha, good to see the Captain back, I have missed him.
