ACT Policing are seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery in Belconnen last night (Thursday, August 30).
Around 9.35pm police were called to the Bottle-O liquor store in Luxton Street after a man entered the store and threatened staff with a knife, demanding the money in the till.
The staff member complied with his demands and the man ran out of the store and turned left towards the service station.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 183cm (6’) tall, medium build with fair facial hair growth. The man spoke with an Australian accent and was wearing a black hooded jumper with the hood pulled over his head, black tracksuit pants and a white bandana over his face.
Detective Sergeant Craig Marriott said the staff member did the right thing in handing over the cash.
“We have had instances in the past where offenders have assaulted staff members during aggravated robberies,” Detective Sergeant Marriott said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to remind Canberrans that these people can be volatile and it is not worth the risk.
It is always best to comply with their demands, remember as much detail as you can and contact police as soon as you are able,” Detective Sergeant Marriott said.
Anyone who saw someone matching the description of the offender is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
