ACT Policing has released CCTV images of one of the offenders responsible for an aggravated robbery in Macquarie on Thursday, March 29 in the hope someone can identify him.

Around 12.05am, two men entered the Southern Cross Club armed with knives, and demanded money from a staff member.

The staff member handed the men a sum of cash and they fled the club through a side door which exits to the car park behind the club.

The first man is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern in appearance, 5’9 (180cm) tall, slim build, and was wearing a black “hoodie” jumper, grey pants, white gloves and sneakers.

The second man is described as being of Middle Eastern appearance, approximately 6’2 (180cm) tall with a solid build. He was wearing a black “hoodie” jumper, grey pants and white sneakers with black stripes.

Police are urging anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV images to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Since when is 180cm both 5’9″ and 6’2″?

6’2” is about 187cm and 5’9” is about 176cm. So they’re wrong on all counts.

That carpet is the real offender.

Hahahaha! I think a similar comment was made re: some Belco Labor club CCTV footage a while back! Good to see so many interior decorators frequent RA! Hahahaha!

On a serious note, ACT Pol has issued quite a few photos related to crimes in recent months (a couple of examples are the dude that hit the girl with a chair in an alley, the man and woman who attacked someone in Maccas). I wonder if anyone has been picked from any of these yet?? Are there any (ACT Pol?) readers out there who have some details?

Probably doing the three leaf clover mission.

Does anyone else think his face looks like it’s painted silver?

I think they’ve enhanced the image to make it a bit clearer.

The hoody makes it too hard to work out who the robber is.

Maybe clubs should have someone on the door who has to open it for people that late at night. The staff member could refuse to open the door for people wearing hoodies/bike-helmets/balaclavas.

Around the entry area they could install tons of cameras, so nobody can enter the club without a good cctv image of their uncovered face.

Make it a policy, you don’t open the door past 10:30pm, unless the cameras get a good shot of the persons face.

People could still rob the place sure, but if the entry area (and security procedures for entry) are designed well enough the police would be assured of getting a good high quality photo of the thief.

I’d think with the small pool of scumbags in this town, all the police would need is a good picture of the robber’s face.

Just to start off, Wests/Southern Cross Jamison has someone on the front door 99% of the time, however later at night they help the rest of the staff clean and do odds and ends when the night starts to get quieter. Because everyone pitching in gets the work done quicker, and there are less staff to get things done.
Also Southern Cross does have a dress code, and it’s alot stricter then it used to be, and it is enforced. but hoodies? You can tell someone to put the hood down. But you can’t really tell the person to take it off and leave it at the front counter like you can do with hats, sunglasses, beanies and balaclavas. and after Midnight in Autumn, with the weather like this? anyone who asks someone to take off a hoodie and leave it at the counter or else they can’t enter the club is an uncaring monster.

And as easy as it is to say “They should install tons of cameras.” after the fact. They do have lots of cameras, but they have to be focused on the whole club, because not every theft is at the Bar, people tend to steal winnings on pokies, Skip out on paying for meals at the resturaunt, verbal and physical disagreements in the smoking areas, heck people have even tried to steal the ATM and that was bolted down INSIDE.
Also high rez cameras and security systems are expensive, from purchasing, to installing, to integrating with the previous system. And we’re talking about a club that almost went under when it was Wests because of an extention and remodel that went waaay over budget, the only way they got out of that pickle was Southern Cross coming in and buying the club a few years ago. Yes they are part of a larger company, no that doesn’t mean they have an unlimited supply of money.

Other people have already mentioned that he may not have come through the front door, which is entirely possible, and relatively easy to do, it’s a sports club, not fort knox.

It’s a bad situation, but I’m glad that no-one got hurt, I know a lot of good people at that club, Staff and Patrons. And atleast the money that was stolen was insured against theft so the club itself doesn’t lose out.

I hope they find these guys, and am confident that with time, they will.

All good if they went through the door, apparently they jumped the fence and came through the smokers DOSA entry/exit.

That is one ugly crim.

This trash, if ever caught, will walk with a suspended sentence , or worse, a community service order..the legal system is a toothless tiger in these parts..Makes a mockery of the hard work put in to catch them in the first place..

So both these guys were 180 cm tall, yet one is 5 9 (halfback) and the other 6 2 (second rower)?

I’m 178 cm and I’m pretty sure that makes me nearly 5 10.

Love to see these type of guys walk out and into an axe handle to the shins. Then they’d both be the same height; about as far off the ground as a snake.

Since when is 180cm both 5’9″ and 6’2″?

Poor Wests. Was my local for a while back in the day. Now I hardly recognise her.
