Andrew Barr has announced that he’s overseen the planting of a hoop pine in the Arboretum’s celebrity forest by author Thomas Keneally.
Mr Keneally’s novels have won many prestigious awards. In 1982 he won the Booker Prize for ‘Schindler’s Ark’, later published in the United States as ‘Schindler’s List’. The movie version was directed by Steven Spielberg in 1993, earning the director his first Best Director Oscar.
The tree planted by Mr Keneally joins the Hoop pines already planted by iconic sporting identities David Compese [sic], Robert de Castella, Lauren Jackson and Mal Meninga.
It’s great to have the importance of the arboretum to the nation, as well as the nation’s capital, recognised by a National Treasure such as Mr Keneally.
Shame we missed getting Eddie Vedder in there when he was in town.
