Hi Riot-ers ….

I have a friend who lives northside, works full-time, and is keen to try the cello.

Before using Google to search for a cello tutors, does anyone have any recommendations? Northside would be first preference, but otherwise not too choosey. A tutor who has lots of patience for a first-timer would be good too.

Thanks

Lada Majella in Yarralumla 0439648414 took my teenage son’s cello playing from sounding like tom cats mating to quite passable.

There’s a mob called music for everyone in Ainslie that provides lessons for all kinds of instruments, including cello. See http://www.mfe.org.au/

+1 for Louise. I know quite a few people who have learned from her over the years*.

* She is a family friend, but I have no financial interest in her business.

Louise Butler in Aranda does adult lessons: http://www.anu.edu.au/music/_old/study/staff/lbutler.php

Your friend could also try contacting the ANU school of music to find a student who would do lessons (most of them would/do, I suspect).

You could try David Chaston. He’s in Spence. I know he teaches kids cello (I know someone whose son has lessons with him). It’s worth asking about adult lessons. His phone numbers are 6260 8201, 0424 955 364. Email is david_chaston@hotmail.com. I don’t know how much he charges. Private lessons for most instruments are usually around the $25-$35 per half hour.

Ask Simon Daly for a suggestion. He’s a stringed instruments repairer/maker over in Kambah and he knows the local industry well.
