vollies

With Canberra’s big day coming up on this Monday’s public holiday (11 March) the volunteers have been presented with their t-shirts at the Legislative Assembly.

Pictured are Jenni Regan, Claire Lewis and Tess Cole-Adams.

If anyone’s keen to volunteer it’s not too late. You should contact Centenary of Canberra volunteer coordinator Julie Sunley on 02 6207 6782 or Julie.sunley@act.gov.au

They could have at least made the right arm blue and claimed it was a nod to the flag…

Or add a red stripe here and there and make efficient use of the Falun Gong yellow …

Slightly off topic – but in terms of “volunteering for Canberra” the “Canberra diaspora (by Archer’s definition)” Natasha Cica did Canberra a disservice today. Sure, she’s a Tasmanian, but interviewed on Counterpoint on Radio National about Tasmania this afternoon, she (sigh) had to slip in a bit of gratuitous serve. “I left Tasmania for Canberra – don’t laugh! -” etc. I can see the rationale for a bit of a cheap shot – if Canberra was isolated like 1980s Tasmania! Yet in a speech at the NPG a couple of years ago: “Canberra has been an important part of my own story, and it’s a real delight to be back”. So, for a national audience it’s “Canberra – meh!” but for a local audience we’re fabulous. Wouldn’t it be good if people like Natasha Cica who have spent serious time in Canberra would be a bit less prone to the gratuitous kick. At least during the Centenary year.

One of those bright lasses could be Her Golden Peeness…some fine day.

All three are foxes.

Why, Oh why the hideous yellow/orange uniform?
There must be a nicer shade of colour to choose from, this is a visual eyesore.

As opposed to an aural eyesore?

What a shame. The “Like Canberra” T shirts came in a much more flattering range of colours. If they want volunteers to stand out, they should have kept to those colours with, say, a strip of bright to make volunteers visible. FAIL (because no-one with any healthy vanity will walk around in a colour that makes them look sallow and awful!). It would have been better to kit them out in Robyn Archer’s uniform: shortsleeved pale 70% synthetic shirt with “new from Woollies” creases down the sleeves and two sensible front pockets over the breasts (yes, BREASTS), and khaki chinos. Gotta say, that is the ONE aspect of Robyn that is actually Canberra-esque: her lack of any fashion sense.

Its part of the ‘be seen when cycling’ campaign. The shirts will be recycled (no pun intended) and given out to cyclists wearing black

Perhasps they couldn’t find a colour that was flattering to everyone, so instead they went with a colour that is flattering to no-one.

In a few years those uniforms will be worth at least 10 cents.

I guess to match the branding – see: http://www.canberra100.com.au/ and
http://www.canberra100.com.au/storage/Centenary_of_Canberra_Brand_Guidelines.pdf

My favourite part of the design guidelines:

CENTENARY OF CANBERRA BRAND PERSONALITY
The celebration of the Centenary of Canberra is creative, visionary and has depth of thought. It surprises people through a bold, energetic and diverse approach, which makes it appealing.

CENTENARY OF CANBERRA BRAND TONE
>> Approachable
>> Authentic
>> Energetic
>> Confident
>> Sensitive to multiple audiences

Haha, what?

I agree though, not the nicest shade for a shirt. My sporting team has a yellow jumper (different shade) as part uniform and it sure does show the dirt!
