Tuggeranong people rejoice! The Canberra Times is reporting here that Centrelink have decided to make the home of their new headquaters in the area where they experienced most demand, Tuggeranong. This move will push over 2800 employees, currently in 11 buildings into two. It will an environmentally friendly terrorist target for the next 25 yeras.

This job will also create over 900 jobs in the construction sector and provide a significant boon to the cafes, and other shops that reside in the Tuggeranong Business District.

Fantastic news if you ask me.

I work in a somewhat windowless area of the “some sort of ex-chemical factory in Symonston”. It’s actually an ex-fibre-optics company factory. That company still occupies a small area of the building, but the rest of it is Centrelinkified.

Sam: “If Centrelink are centralised, I fear we will have a bunch of other scattered departments demanding centralisation as well”
Don’t lose any sleep over this mate, they already all want it and they hardly ever get it. Affordable availability of large office space is a bit of a scarcity apparently.

The real question is when the new Klink building goes up in Tuggers, how will the currently terrible parking situation there be addressed?

The strange thing is, a lot of government departments are scattered across buildings and areas (HIC being one of them scattered across Tuggeranong, Deakin, Woden/Gungahlin(???))

If Centrelink are centralised, I fear we will have a bunch of other scattered departments demanding centralisation as well. This may or may not be a bad things, I can see good points in having centralised infrastructure making communications easier, and bad points in having to build whole new buildings when they currently occupy multiple existing perfectly good buildings.

Tuggeranong people rejoice! Centrelink people despair!

OK I checked with my BIL who works in National Support Office in Tuggeranong. They are based in TOP – Tuggeranong Office Park which is Athllon Drive. FACS are co-located there too.

Clink are also based in South park (next to the Recycling depot in Tuggers, near to Bunnings), 4 sites in Woden, one site in Cooleman Court, and several other sites in Tuggies Cown Centre (4 seasons house, flax house and one other one that he can’t recall), Canberra Avenue in Fyshwick and some sort of ex-chemical factory in Symonston (his words, not mine 🙂

I think that adds up to 9???!!!!!

So the predominance is already in Tuggeranong Town Centre – 80% of the employees are already there.

Will be more efficient for our taxes to have em in one spot!!!

Not to mention in nine other areas as well mate.

Centrelink are already headquarted in Tuggeranong Town centre – in Athllon drive. I believe they also have a stack of staff in Woden too.

Oh God, aren’t Gungahlin gonna complain about this decision.
