CFMEU and Labor leads the pack at gouging with the one-armed bandits

The Canberra Times reports that the CFMEU operated Dickson Tradies and the Belconnen Labor club lead the rest of the pack in swindling the most out of stupid people last year as Canberra’s poker machines raked in $191 million.

The CT notes that the Liberals are just as in love with the gaming palaces pretending to be “community clubs”. And why not as it keeps mates and comrades from both sides in easy money?

“We assuming that those who regularly dump their dough in CAN actually do maths and know what 87% actually means….”

87% of all money going into a poker machine goes to propping up fat, useless lumps in the Labor Party?

They’re just unlucky dammit! But don’t worry, it’ll be their turn next dole payment!

Like Snahon says, supply and demand…

We assuming that those who regularly dump their dough in CAN actually do maths and know what 87% actually means….

Anyone dumb enough to do their dough in the slow learners centre (pokie lounge) doesn’t deserve a great deal of sympathy. It says on the machine that there is a 87% return – do the maths…

It may becoming a larger social issue but as you rightly point out Thumper – Personal Rsponsibily folks.

It all goes back to supply and demand (and stupidity of people).

I sometimes wonder if gambling is a bit like drugs. We make it illegal because we see the damage it causes, but then everyone shouts to make it legal because it still exists but now we can’t regulate or tax it.

It’s a huge social problem, with no easy solution. Education would go some way towards solving the problem, I think. Educating people to take responsibility for themselves included.

id shut them down tomorrow.

maybe i should run for the next assembly elections.

It’s not going to happen

The Tradies is proof that you need at least five machines per gambler to really soak them for every cent they’ve got.

Oh no question, the whole community (myself included) floats on the backs of the morons who can’t do basic maths and put their money in the machines.

But you do have to ask if they’re the most equitable part of the community to be extracting this cash from.

On the upside if you go there and don’t gamble, the meals and drinks are very cheap.
