My sources all say there’s not much to it.
But it’s worth noting that Jessica Wright (now on the SMH) has been speculating that the Minister Not Responsible, Katy Gallagher, is about to tap the Brave and Chiefly Stanhope on the shoulder.
Internal party speculation is rife that Chief Minister Jon Stanhope is preparing to stand down to make way for deputy Katy Gallagher, who would be elected unopposed by caucus. Party sources say there is a strong push for generational change from Mr Stanhope – the nation’s longest-serving current Labor leader – to Ms Gallagher. This would avoid damaging leadership speculation of the kind that dogged federal and NSW Labor recently.
An announcement on Mr Stanhope’s future is expected to be made in late September, after he returns from leave.
Waxing philosophical Mr Stanhope says he plans to lead Labor to the 2012 election.
