Chaos at Westfield Car Park

Anyone know what was going on at Westfield Woden today, at the multi-storey car park opposite Hoyts?

I drove in there about 12.30pm, and was still there forty minutes later stuck in a traffic jam.

There were no staff in there to explain what was going on.

Yet even when the hold-up was at its worst they still hadn’t blocked off the Corinna street entrance.

Good on you, Einsteins.

15 minutes? Waiting in traffic. You poor thing.

Get a life.

Oh, goodness me, this happened to me today too! -Must be the time of day, was there slightly later about 1pm, got through the boom gate, travelled about 5m and came to a dead stop. Cars were backed up to the exit near the Southern Cross Club, up and down each ramp and in and out of each aisle. It was an absolute nightmare. No one could move anywhere. After sitting there for about 15 minutes, becasue I was near an aisle, I actually managed to nose in and get a carpark and thought I’d worry about it when I got out. An hour later it seemed to clear. When I went to tell the information desk, they told me they knew and it was because “everyone tried to leave at the same time” Uhh, no it wasn’t…It was much worse than that – it was a real traffic jam – 15 minutes sitting in a car park is not everyone trying to leave at once and I don’t know how long people had been sitting before I joined the queue.

Surely some geeks somewhere can make a number plate recognition software, takes a photo when you enter, and as you leave it registers it again and makes you swipe a credit card if you need payment so you can leave.

or is that too big brother-ish?

The technology is available, I’m thinking it is too expensive-ish.

Exit gates near the Southern Cross Club were having the machine equivalent of a work-to-rule session this afternoon. Took their time to scrutinise every ticket that came their way… if they couldn’t find a reason to not accept the ticket at all.

The other carpark had issues a while back too while I was there… trouble is most people arent there for more than 2 hours, which is free but you need to stuff around with the machines. It’s an ongoing problem, been going on for years and they’ve never been able to fix it. The main offender is the ticket machine opposite the cinemas which either spits out blank tickets with the boom gate not opening, or else spits out multiple tickets which are discarded on the ground creating litter.

Ironically the company which makes the machines is called Skidata, which sounds very much like the Greek word skata (which means sh*t). How very appropriate.

Hehe Good choice i was there at that time but instinct said goto the green carpark. Less people and easier to get around.

As i was walking through bonner court i head a lady talking to a guy on the intercom about the chaos in the other carpark. I wondered what she meant!

Ticket machines are busted, have been for months.

Sorry, make that the Callam street entrance.
