The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will tomorrow, Saturday 1 September, 2012, weather permitting, conduct two hazard reduction burns in the ACT.
From 10am until 6pm, the ACTRFS will conduct a hazard reduction burn at the Canberra Equestrian Centre, near the intersection of Hindmarsh and Eucumbene Drives Chapman.
Five heavy tankers, one light unit, one command vehicle and 20 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx one hectare in size.
The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Chapman burn is J13.
Also tomorrow, the ACTRFS will conduct a pile burn at Thoroughbred Park, Randwick Road, Lyneham.
Two heavy tankers, one command vehicle and 10 personnel will conduct the burn covering a total area of approx one hectare in size.
The burn will commence at 10.30am and continue until 4.30pm.
The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the Lyneham burn is L10.
The purpose of both burns is to remove a fuel hazard.
Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.
The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
