ACT Policing has arrested a 26-year-old Charnwood woman and an 18-year-old Aranda woman who allegedly robbed a taxi driver and assaulted police last night (Friday, November 11).
About 10.20pm, a taxi driver collected the women from the West Belconnen Leagues Club in Holt wanting to travel to the city.
During the trip, the 26-year-old woman, who was the front passenger in the taxi, allegedly began to remove a quantity of coins in the centre consol and an envelope containing a mobile phone. She then allegedly punched the cab driver on the arm and demanded his wallet or other money.
The taxi driver activated the emergency alarm to which police responded. Police attended Benjamin Way in Belconnen and arrested the two women involved in the incident.
During her arrest, the 26-year-old woman allegedly spat at an officer.
The 26-year-old woman was conveyed to the ACT Policing Watch House where she was charged with robbery and two counts of assault-related offences and expected to face the ACT magistrates Court today (Saturday, 12 November). The 18-year-old woman was interviewed and later released without charge.
