Putting up with 2nd and even 3rd best has become so common that people’s tastebuds have adjusted and think if they get something better there is something wrong with it.

When Virginia University tried to change their patties in their burgers from Pink Slime to real meat, after seeing Jamie Oliver’s doco on US school lunches, the students rebelled. “It didn’t taste right!”

I view Italian thin-crust pizza (as you would get in an Italian restaurant like Briscola) and the thicker-based American style ones as different things. The latter is better for curing hangovers, the former for slightly more highbrow occasions. They both have their place, and food evolution can be a wonderful thing.

Well if you get what shows up in the pictures, please give me the 10 buck special with ” thick dough and the toppings meld in to a cheap cheese laden mess”. And perhaps one of those ‘new’ cokes. Have yet to try one.

Was going to say the same re: frozen pizza. I wish frozen pizza looked like that, the only one that comes close is the Papa Guiseppe Bakehouse crust which are actually pretty decent.

I had the lunch special at Transit around January and it took forever. I had a 30min lunch and was about 20mins late even though I worked just across the road.

The pizza itself was decent but the dinginess factor of inside Transit put me off a bit though.

Transit is a great bar early in the evening – gets too noisy and music later in the evening for this old soak.
Plus a great range of beers (the owner, Mark, has a penchant for hoppy pale ales) including PACT beers which are their house brand.
The pizza bases are made by Mosaic and for a bar pizza, pretty good. But go there on a Wednesday evening and have a schooner and a pizza for $10! No complaints about the quality of the pizzas, the beers on tap nor the prices from the assembled throng!

The bartender admitting a hangover might seem like its lacking class, but you should never trust a bartender who doesn’t drink so that gets my respect. I once had a similar admission from a student doctor about to jam a sharp needle in my arm. Reassuring!

They look pre-made and frozen to me, but like I said in the article – they definitely weren’t, just look that way compared to the fresh pizzas that I would usually get elsewhere.
