The only news on the Motorist’s Party website is that they’ve got a new website.

But the Canberra Times has the news that Summernats front man Chic Henry is going to be a very effective celebrity candidate for the white-shirts.

Despite being associated with the Liberal Party over the years, Mr Henry said the Motorists were a natural fit for him.

“If you think about all the things I’ve been known for, at the end of the day, I love cars, I love driving my car every day.

“I love motorsports, high performance cars, I couldn’t have run Summernats all those years if I didn’t love what it was all about so I think (the Motorists) were a closer fit to what I was all about,” he said.

He’s going to run in Ginninderra, which will be an interesting squeeze play on the middle seat there.

I tried to find anything about climate change on their site and couldn’t. But purely from an entertainment point of view, I hope that they are rabidly against the science. Then Henry BG can take on Chic Henry in the Battle of the Henries.

I’d rather vote One Nation than vote for these boofheads.

It didn’t take long for you to take the bait did it HenryBG?

I assume that AMP would be against everything

If Chic Henry’s party hasn’t got a climate change policy then Chic has my vote.

Burl Doble is a former One Nation and AMP candidate.

The AMP website is somewhat light on content.

Somehow I doubt that a person who life revolves around burning copious amounts of fuel will be worried about such environmental aspects.

Of course, I may be wrong and Mr Henry may indeed prove to have a different view.

I was actually searching for anti-climate change rants! “Why burn-outs are good for us and the atmosphere” or somesuch.

Fair point Jase! – profile amended.

Jase get real. Who knows any person’s identity and political affiliation who post on the RiotACT so why should only Gungahlin Al out himself as a green candidate on every post? No other candidate or staffer has been transparent. Also you should be aware that the AMP got 2.78% in Molonglo in 2008 so second preferences are important in determining the 7 th place. This election will be a cliffhanger!

2 points

firstly I’d like to see the link between the motorists party and one nation other than Johnboy just not liking them

and secondly if Gungahlin Al wants to comment on political matters like he did above I think it would be appropriate that his posts have a signature stating he is a nominated greens candidate so that the more recent visitors to the site know where he is coming from

Good on Chic for having a go.

Build us a motorsport complex without whinging neighbors

So Chic Henry is the Val Jeffery of this election? Small party outside – but really just Liberal inside?

Preference skimming?

A bit like The Greens and Labor, eh Al?

Something I can never understand about so called Motorists’ lobbies – why do they not understand that everything that increases take-up of public transport and cycling isn’t taking away from “road users” but is actually reducing congestion for those who can’t (or won’t) use those options?

What relationship exists between the Motorists Party and One Nation?

Wasn’t one of their founders a former one nation candidate or something like that?

With porn and prostitution the big earners during Summernats, surely a dream coalition of Fiona Patten and Chic Henry is on the cards?

If there was a dragway down Northborne we would not need light rail. Ideas people, ideas!

Rapid transit system that wouldn’t cost the taxpayer a penny. Now you’re thinking. Run the strip southbound in the mornings, northbound in the afternoon with a “park ‘n ride” system at EPIC.

Good news I think time will tell though who is he up against? and who is the current sitting member?

What relationship exists between the Motorists Party and One Nation?

Our three Hume road warriors are sure votes!

Best news I’ve heard for a long time. Hopefully all the Greens members in the current Assembly will be voted out and be replaced by members from the Motorist Party. Then we will have a Liberal government in coalition with the Motorists and kiss goodbye to left wing extremism, climate change grants, dodgy solar panels schemes and public art. It will be a win-win for everybody.

Whoa … quick, someone make sure grandpa gets his meds.

The Motorist Party should do a preference deal with the Sex Party.

Chic would be a perfect intermediary with plenty of experience through his work at Summernats.

Is Chic Henry related to our own HenryBG?

didn’t old Chic have to go bankrupt for Summernats? now he wants us to vote him in office, oh why not its Canberra he’d make the perfect treasurer

So long as he allocates money for the construction of a motorsport venue he’ll make a perfect treasurer!

I am a motorcyclist and he doesn’t represent me.

He has no endorsment friom the MRA ACT or any other motorcycle group that I am aware of.

Surely this claim is “fraudulent”?

Seriously Chic, you can’t be serious

Anyone know where I can get odds on the ACT election?

You are the archetype for Crotchety, Out-of-Touch, Old People everywhere, aren’t you? What planet do you live on and what year do you think it is? :O

I can’t believe there are people still bashing climate change as some lefty conspiracy. It’s gone far beyond the level of reasonable (or even unreasonable) scepticism, into flat-out intellectually dishonest denialist territory.
“Oh scientists, what do they know!? In my day we used to burn an acre of bushland after school everyday and no-one said anything about warming! Plus, it got really cold last night, which totally proves that climate change is a socialist conspiracy!”

Because Greens voters will flock to the Motorists?

In what addled fantasy world are you living.

They’ll come off Labor and Liberal, those parties will be praying they can get Motorists preferences this time.

I also not they’ve listed “Pedestrian and cyclist issues” as one of those catagories, love to see what will happen there! 😉

I think we can guess where it will go:

The Australian Motorist Party represents all road users, including heavy vehicles, motorcycles, taxis, public transport etc. The Party policy may also represent pedestrians, cyclists and the general public where motoring policy shares a common interest with these sectors. As a broad policy objective, the Australian Motorist Party will work to ensure that a more just and representative proportion of budgetary income derived from the motoring sector is allocated to the safety and welfare of the motoring citizens.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens if motorists don’t have a common interest with the general public.

Won’t he play to the ‘aspirational voters’? That is the ones who have an S ute but aspire to a Maloo. I would have thought they were Liberal voters

That is the funniest post I’ve read in a while! Kudos!

I hope he doesn’t stand on his business accomplishment record.

In their policies section there are just catagories listed, nothing about how they will be addressed. I hope they provide detail soon, because some of the catagories are important.

If Henry picks up the apathetic/disinterested blue/fluro collar voters that tend to vote Labor and streams that to the Liberals, this could be interesting.
