Chiefly backflip on Queensland Flood Donation

Following on from Katy Gallagher announcing the ACT would send $50,000 to Queensland Chief Minister Stanhope has now anounced that we’re sending a cool quarter mil.

Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said that since the ACT’s initial contribution of $50,000 earlier this month it had become clear that the scale of the devastation would extend far further than initially predicted, and that a reconstruction effort of truly historic proportions lay ahead for the people of Queensland.

“In the days since our initial donation we have witnessed further devastation across a wide swathe of south-east Queensland, in the Lockyer Valley, in Ipswich and Caboolture, and more recently the inundation of Brisbane itself,” Mr Stanhope said.

Mr Stanhope said he was confident that local Australia Day events planned for Canberra later this month would become massive fund-raising events in their own right, with Canberrans showing once again their generosity to those in need.

Has that much changed in since 11 January?

Pathetic spin, pathetic chief minister, pathetic government.

How do these people live with their spin and lies?

what spin and lies?

Um, how is this a backflip?

They must have seen the RA poll.

They may also have been waiting for more info before sending more money.

How much has changed since 11/1 – public perception! It is always a bit embarrasing when the community and businesses are more generous than the Government. Change in extent is just a nice fallback.

Hardly a backflip.
