Chifley house fire

ACT Fire & Rescue are on scene at a house fire at Charteris Crescent, Chifley.

Fire has spread from an attached garaged into a house.

Update to follow.

7:59 AM

Firefighters are continuing to fight the fire.

The roof of the house has collapsed.

Four fire pumpers and two commanders currently on scene.

Update to follow.

8:09 AM

The ACT Fire & Rescue Hazardous Materials Unit and the Breathing Apparatus Van are now also on scene. Crews are continuing to fight the fire.

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics are also on scene supporting operations and have treated a 52-year-old male with burns to his hands and neck. The patient will shortly be taken to The Canberra Hospital.

8:20 AM

Firefighters have knocked down the fire but are continuing to extinguish spot fires and fire in the roof space.

No adjoining neighbouring properties have been damaged.

Time of Emergency Triple Zero (000) call 7.45am.

8:42 AM

Firefighters have extinguished the fire and are searching for any hot spots.

An ACT Fire & Rescue urban search and rescue firefighter is now conducting a structural assessment of the house.

8:59 AM

ACT Fire & Rescue has deployed the Bronto Skylift Hydraulic Platform aerial appliance to assess the damage from the air to the three bedroom house and to eliminate any hot spots in the roof.

Estimated damage $350,000,

Garage has been destroyed.

Routine fire cause determination to be carried out.
