A collision between a vehicle and a child on the intersection of Spec Place and Bimberri Crescent in Palmerston on Friday (23 February) has resulted in the death of the child, making it the third fatality on Canberra’s roads this year.

Police responded to a report of the collision on Friday at around 6:20 pm, and ACT Ambulance Service transported the child to hospital. Unfortunately, the child died yesterday (24 Saturday) as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) are examining the circumstances surrounding the collision and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Police are asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.

My heart goes out to the child’s family who should not have to deal with this. Still have to wonder why the community was not advised of the incident having occured for going on 48 hours? Also, isn’t the location in a 50 km/h zone? Wonder how fast the vehicle was going?

Yes. This child was in my class at school and is my brothers best friends big brother. It hurts to this day, we can’t even say that name around my brother otherwise he starts to cry. It truly is a sad event and I was crushed by it and so was the whole school
