Childers street opens

Simon Corbell has proudly announced the opening of the Childers Street Art Precinct (yes, another precinct, why can’t we be cool and have quarters?).

The practical upshot will mean driving into Civic West can now be done somewhat safely.

It also promises “synaesthesia” as a result of light sculpture and, wait for it, coloured awnings. My dictionary describes synaesthesia thusly:

“noun Physiology & Psychology
the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body.

• the poetic description of a sense impression in terms of another sense, as in “a loud perfume” or “an icy voice.”

Simon, or at least the legendary Monica Boogs, thinks it’s “a phenomenon where the human senses overlap. The work uses a blending of sight and hearing, with the musical score of Percy Grainger’s ‘The Walking Song’, transcribed in the coloured glass canopies.

So a wholly visual experience is going to overlap senses is i? Or are those lucky few who can sight read music going to start getting into the groove?

are they persisting with ‘city’ ?

I’d hope there’d be four of them, otherwise the term “quarter” is being abused…

We do have quarters. I noticed in the new section of the canberra centre a sign pointing to the ‘north quarter’. No idea if there are any others but one would presume so.

Well, if it’s killing off drunken yobbos from Johns, then it’s performing a nice piece of natural selection.

Whoever the architect was; shooting is too good for the bastard.

It looks like the entry to a kindergarten along there now! And how long does anyone think it’ll be before some drunken yobbo from John XXIII falls off one of those lovely coloured glass “wings” attached to the light poles?

Simo is off his meds: Again

I’m just happy they’ve opened the road to car traffic again. It was a nightmare around that part of town at 5pm.

Is corbell suffering from sunstroke or something?

Or is he just a plain old stroker?

I can’t see how any of the above helps me pay my rates!
