Children with Challenges - Any Support Groups in Canberra?

My child doesn’t have a disability, and can’t really be considered ‘special needs’, but he does have a number of challenging behaviours and medical conditions. So, as he hasn’t been ‘diagnosed’ with any one condition, we see a great number of specialists and therapists for the differing aspects, but as he doesn’t have a labelled condition, we miss the chance to join a specific support group.

Are there any support groups in Canberra (or even casual groups of parents who regularly get together) with children in this situation?

I’d love some support and understanding and to develop a bit of a network of people in the same situation.

Thanks in advance.

Good thought on ‘my time’ as there doesnt need to be a box ticked for those

You could try a MyTime playgroup, they’re playgroups for children with a disability or chronic medical condition. Playgroups ACT run them here. You can find more information at

Hi there
It iS really hard to find support in Canberra if you dont fit a box. CIT skils for Carers run lots of great events for parents or anyone caring for someone with additonal needs. Doing something like their behaviour matters group will link you with like minded paretns who have children with a range of issues. You dont have to fit a box to be able to attend these events.

Also Under help for Families in the Holiday Happenings magazine you may find someone whno can help you there

Hope that helps
