Hi,

I’m new to Canberra and I am wondering if there are any good Children’s shops/boutiques around town? Any help would be great!

Thanks for your help!

Thanks everyone for the comments. I checked out some of your suggestions, but lellow in Braddon was easily my favourite. A beautiful shop and a really nice girl working there. Highly recommended.

Hi I run an online boutique business in Canberra called Eat Bake Nurture http://www.eatbakenurture.com.au
I stock BPA free products for the whole family as well as the well loved brands called Seedling, Momma, Kids Konserve and Goodbyns. Everything has been chosen because I am a Mum of two and I wanted my girls to use products that encourage their imagination and that aren;t harmful to them, hence the BPA free range.
I hope you will check us out.
Cheers

The toyshop Kuku mentions opened by the former Little Red Engine girls is called Childplay and it’s at 22 Colbee Court. It’s very welcoming, the team is very experienced, the product is great (many European wood toys) and there are toys out through the store for children to play with. It’s next door to a great coffee shop called the Chocolate Olive so you can enjoy some time there and then head next door for a really good cuppa.
Colbee Court is a great family area because the Court has an artstore, picture framers, a doctor’s surgery, toyshops, a baby shop (Kid Essentials), a music school, a schoolwear shop and an environmentally friendly dry cleaner (EcoClean).
As for clothes, one of my favourites in Canberra is called Misschief Maker which is located in the grounds of Rodney’s Nursery at Pialligo. They have a beautiful range of clothing and accessories many of which are locally sourced or made. Next door is a shop called Brindabella Baby which stocks organic and enviro friendly baby products including cloth nappies. The setting out there is fantastic as there’s a playground under the trees so the trip is worthwhile.
And yes, I’d love a child exchange – still convinced they gave us the wrong ones at the hospital…

also a great store in fyshwick, toyhaus, down near the barlens hire place – does a great range of toys (mostly sourced from europe) not found elsewhere…

second the owl shop in braddon (not sure it’s ‘brown’, but not sure what it is – ‘little’?) – the owner started ‘cowboys and angels many moons ago and is a brilliant stockist.

little sprout, within the chemist in city markets, is also good for toysa nd the handmade markets shop in where electric shadows bookstore once was is a great shop.

and yes, damn you, thumper!

Brown Owl (?) – in Lonsdale Street Braddon

If it’s the one I am thinking of (near Antics) it’s changed name to lellow.

Bamboozle (I think) in Manuka and there is a also a nice place in Gold Creek, but the name escapes me.

I think it’s illegal to sell children in canberra.

of course, I may be wrong…

Years ago there was a ‘Childrens Exchange’ in Fyshwick. At times I was very tempted to take my kids there and ask for better behaved ones 😉

Chillada in the main street of Gungahlin has some nice things.

DAMN….Thumper beat me to it!

Brown Owl (?) – in Lonsdale Street Braddon – they stock labels like Run Scotty Run etc, there’s one inside the Cusacks arcade in Kingston and they have some really interesting stuff, jnr DKNY etc and a really cute store inside Rodney’s at Pialligo that specialises in handmade. The Bus Shed markets has a lot of handmade kids stuff and of course, the handmade markets (next one is 4 December at the Kamberri Wine Complex on Northborne Ave). For ‘chain’ store kids stuff, Seed is in the Canberra Centre and Country Road also stocks kids stuff, but you need to be early as they only get a few of each item.

For toys you may want to try Phillip’s Colbee (or is it Dundas – I always get the two mixed up). Sprout (formerly Little Red Engine) is on one side and the former owner of LRE has opened a wonderful toy store on the other side of the court off Townsend Street.

Hope this helps.

There are at least two in Gungahlin, in the BigW complex. Grandma’s attic, and some new business that opened directly adjacent to the aforementioned.
