Chisholm Tavern is about to get a new name!

With the new renovations we find it should not be tagged with ‘Tavern’ any longer. The word ‘Tavern’ conjures up an image of a dark, dingy place where smoke fills the air and the music is so loud you can’t hear yourself think. We have revamped the place to be a bright, cheery destination for a nice quiet drink and meal with family and/or friends. We have live music on Thursday and Friday nights with local and interstate artists. Thursday music is from 8.30PM and Friday from 9PM. Meals are reasonably priced and the menu is good old Aussie style for both lunch and dinner.

For all you knockers out there, come and have a look before you post a comment. People have long memories in this business, and maybe it was a little rough about ten years ago, but the absence of the need for security nowadays tells the story.

Anyway, we will start the new year with a new name. It will be called The Jag Bar – look out for it!

Anyhow, did not get anywhere with the name change as yet, thanks to fosters Australia we have been waiting for a new sign. Seems like all the Clubs in Canberra can get new signage whenever and wherever they like, but I have had a sign on order for a little under twelve months and ‘apparently’ ACTPLA are the hold up. Sooo, still going with the Jag Bar (Jenny and Graham) so come and check it out if you have never been there. You will be surprised.

Having visited the Tavern in the past when it was a dark dingy bar where ‘trouble’ was often found I have recently started revisiting and would recommend it to anyone. The interior is bright and clean; the staff and locals friendly; and the meals good value and good food. Thursday or Friday night are a great night out listening/dancing to the live bands and sharing some drinks with friends (especially Friday when drinks are cheap until about 10.30pm). I’ve taken friends there and to their surprise (because they’d only known it by it’s past reputation) they had a fabulous time!

Oh and Chop71 – I’ve NEVER seen any chicks there in singlets and ugg boots…. but if that’s what you’re looking for I’m sure there are plenty of other Tavern’s where ‘bogans’ hang out 🙂

Gumby, Jenny, Wanyo, Greg, Ange are all top people as well behind the bar. I would recomend anyone to go there it is not what is use to be and i have learnt this by giving it a chance. In fact ill go as far as saying that there is less trouble at Chisholm Tavern than at the Maram or PJ’s or anywhere like that so all the people saying its a hole, give it a go you will be suprised. People also get drunk anywhere it could be at the Chisholm Tavern, Vikings etc but people will always be drunk and the “regulars” of Chisholm Tavern are nothing but a top bunch of people who will help out, chat to younger people and generally make it a good place to go. TOP WORK!!

When I was hopping about (the band called us ‘bandies’ as opposed to groupies cause we sung the girl bits for them) with a band in the early 00’s, they did a gig at Chisholm Tavern and I had a ball. The people were open, friendly and colourful! I had my wits about me up upon entry, always do in a tavern though, can see where a name change could help.

Will have to get along one day again soon.

all the names in all the world, and you chose ‘jag’. that’s a refreshing change, then…

Thumper, sounds good. See you there!

I would happily drop in and check it out… but I fear for my safety and as such I will not

lol Jag Bar = Cougarville.
Do chicks wearing singlets and ugg boots still get in free?

To be known as The Jag Off to friends and family?

ROFLMAO!

My thoughful and considered opinion and thus my comment is “I heartily disagree with the original post”.

Hey sloppery…maybe you’ll have better luck at the Jag Bar…!

The Jaguar bar ? Conjures up an image of cougar rich environment… or perhaps after a game of golf Tigers might prowl.

Sounds good Diulay – all the best with the renos, new name and revamped atmosphere.
