The ACT Fire Brigade has been pre-conditioned to respond rapidly to chook-cooking fires at Manuka.
The last one was at the Charcoal Chicken which rapidly got out of control and burnt the entire Manuka Village complex to the ground. A shopkeeper had a fatal heart attack as a result.

Just so everyone is clear, this never happened. There may have been a fire, but it did not burn all of the Village to the ground.

At least the chooks were well cooked. Bought a BBQed chook there about a month ago only to find it hadn’t been fully cooked when I got it home.

Two pumpers for a chook oven? that’s some big oven.

I think it is more that they dispatch two tankers as standard practice, I think it is more of a race to see which station gets there first. They would have been called to a fire at Coles, instead of “the chook oven’s on fire.”

Oh lordy, that’s a way puny ACTFB response. Normally even a slice of burnt toast will get you 4 pumpers, the Bronto Google Street View Simulator, the Breathing Apparatus Support tank, 2 managers and 6 members of the Media Liaison And Lets Get The Fire Trucks on the News section.

Heh, actually that’s not far off it! A certain international defence company cheaped out on installing an exhaust fan in their kitchen, and had a run of Burnt Toast Incidents, resulting in a metro brigade and the Airport brigade attending each time. Expensive exercise, apparently. Up to four trucks, and those airport trucks are humungous.

Despite some urging from the females in the crowd, the firemen did not oblige with a striptease, either.

That Charcoal Chicken fire was a huge tragedy. We lost the best cooked-chook place in Canberra.

Maybe the firemen were hungry.

Well, the smell of BBQ / roast chickens at my local supermarket has long been known to draw salivating masses to the deli counter…

Maybe the firemen were hungry.

or some super maxi gamma irradiated genetically modified chooks.
