scary bug

I just found this rather horrifying specimen on my front porch.

Does anybody know what it is? Some kind of cockroach-bee-grasshopper hybrid abomination?

It was about 4 centimetres long.

I chucked it over the fence in the hopes that it doesn’t find its way back!

It’s a sky prawn! Perfect Aussie xmas fare.

Like the shingle back lizard.

I’m more concerned with why you have “4cm” stencilled on your front porch

Well he can only take so much through the back door!

This little man can fly up to 8kms to get himself some lady mole cricket tang -hehe i find that cool.
They are usually underground so we don’t see them alot, and apparently on every continent bar the Antarctic. Those front legs are used for shoveling dirt and swimming. This bug is a renaissance man/bug. 🙂

Lady Mole Cricket; sounds like a really bad singer!

Looks like some of your seafood for the festive season was so fresh it wasn’t quite dead yet.

It looks like it has two heads. Or two bottoms.
