Does anyone know which restaurants/hotels are doing lunch on Christmas Day? Already looked at Hyatt, Rydges, Boat House ($185pp with no mention of wine, eek!), but am having trouble finding others. We need a break from cooking this year.

Not sure how they will go getting staff this year as Christmas day is not a public holiday, would prob get paid just saturday rates

Arrgh sorry i thought that list had Canberra as well but it doesn’t please ignore and go back to searching lol

The one at the Rydges by the lake they have all the piss you can drink….crownies.

I went to xmas lunch at the Hyatt last year it was about $100 a head, and included house wine, champange and light beer (I grumbled a bit about this last one). The food and service was excellent, and I thought it was really good value for money.

Thanks for your help, guys. I found another couple of places open beyond the hotels, clubs, and those mentioned above – First Floor and Anise. Also Hill Station at Hume – anyone care to comment on the food there? Haven’t been there for years

In the hand… tsk tsk… I hope they declared it on their tax return 😉

more than 10 years ago we paid staff in a club 40bucks per hour in the hand and the boss got 60. Handy little earner and those staff then got first chance at having NYE off.

Any of the big clubs do lunch, most of the hotels and some other restaurants do it. But yes – labour costs are high so prices are high.

Benchmark in the Jolimont building are advertising their Xmas lunch, I think it’s $95pp.

When I was a chef – OI negotiated pay for x-mas day – usually beginning on a base 12 hr day for $37.5 minimum. Restaraunteurs pay out the nose for staff on X-mas day – so they charge appropriately – and still make quite a margin.

I would be expecting to pay a large premium to avoid cooking on Christmas Day, and paying someone else to do it for me.

Imagine trying to get staff to work Christmas Day. Yikes.

Brassey Hotel in Barton.

RE: Canberra Connect would be where I would start

Do they do food now? 🙂

Something else to disagree with Ralph about – did Rydges last year and it was abyssmal!

But if you enjoy shelling out $90 for the privilege of queuing with plate in hand for 70 minutes, go right ahead…

Canberra Connect would be where I would start

The one at Rydges next to the lake is ok. The downstairs option is good value for money, but you do have to put up with hordes of screeching kids.

Also try Olims, Ainslie FC, Southern Cross Club.
