CityNews seeks an editor

In my building the body corporate has installed bins next to the mail boxes so residents have somewhere to fling their audited copies of CityNews and the Chronicle.

But there still seems to be far more money in the business than, say, cutting edge online reporting.

Seek has an ad for a job as a CityNews editor/sub-editor/journo.

The editor will be an experienced self-starter with a sharp eye for news and features, and responsible for directing contributors and coaching a junior reporter.

A working knowledge of the local Canberra political and community scene is essential.

The position, located in the city centre, attracts a remuneration package of around $65k pa.

Of late, with the advertorial clearly marked, I had thought it was getting a bit better.

I know that you consider that their writing is often beyond shoddy and consists largely of the regurgitation of press releases (which I by and large agree with).

I also know that you’ve had the occasional burst of invective from Jorian Gardner (which, by the by, I have too).

Just that the line “they know my number, they can call me” sounds glib and bitchy and, indeed, mildly attitude-y – wheras I suspect the accurate line would be closer to “I wouldn’t work for that pack of arseholes under the threat of certain death”.

Bonfire, and be forced to live with working for Canberra’s best freely distributed glossy advertorial nonsense device? I think I’ll pass.

Sadly Simbo we can’t go into all the details of our history with the folk at CityNews maybe if you knew what you were talking about you would understand our “attitude”.

If Kerces is planning on buggering off down the coast to seek employment (as per the article on Illawarra residents seeking work here), has she thought about going for this one?

Or has she got the same “I don’t need to apply, they can approach me” attitude as JB?

Sounds like, if you’re an MEAA member, CN probably wouldn’t take you anyway.

City News has a terrible reputation among the town’s journos for not paying. If you’re an MEAA member, don’t even waste your time. It’s a rip off.

Don’t be shy,
Apply.

They know where to find me if they want me.

For $65k maybe Johnboy would be interested in applying?

who left???

crazychester. At least then you would want to read it.

maybe time for sgs to step up…

All relative. I’d say it’s not bad money for running that rag.

They’re not going to get anyone of quality by offering $65k.
