Improved access from Parks Way to Northbourne via Edinburgh Ave is an excellent idea. Of course, I don’t have to park in the car parks that will soon be apartment blocks so…

My prediction; Odgers Lane cafe and Melbourne Bldg arcades – not gonna happen. (Well, duuhh!)
It baffles me why city planners insist on plonking cafes in the shade in Canberra. The place with the most sun and the best views in Belconnen is the f’n mall car park! nngh!

Westbound buses have their stop improved, eastbound buses seem to have the bustop removed and replaced with a taxi rank.

The bus stop is still there – it’s west of the taxi rank just as it is now.

Changes to Alinga St E of Marcus Clarke St leave out the bus stop. Wonder where the buses are being sent?

Huh? The plan specifically mentions the bus stop with new bus shelters in the same location as it’s currently at.

From what I can see the changes aren’t removing the bus stop, just widening the verge/footpath. At the moment the street is almost three lanes wide travelling westbound on Alinga, so it will be reduced to a narrower traffic lane and bus bay area.

The Edinburgh extension is being built to service the new buildings that will be going up on either side (particularly useful for 300 series buses). Also as part of the works the existing exit loop onto London Cct will be removed. The added benefit of the extension is that traffic entering from Parkes Way will be able to access Northbourne Avenue more easily. At present you need to either go around London Cct or continue to Coranderrk Street.

According to the Melbourne Building plans the ‘arcades’ are theoretical and will only be constructed at the discretion (and cost) of lease holders/building owners. Whoever came up with the idea of a cafe in that dingy alley must be smoking crack though. In the middle of winter that venue would be about as inviting as a fresh cat turd sandwich.

The other plan that made me facepalm is the southern end of City Walk, which includes some lovely grassed areas. The dirt patch that has occupied this site for the best part of a decade is a pretty clear indication that it is unsuitable for growing anything but unnatractive artwork.

The plans for the Melbourne building’s internal lane look interesting. I wonder if the council has been actively negotiating with existing leaseholders to create the two ‘arcades’ running east-west thru either side of the building and into the lane, or whether this is just something that exists on the plan only.

Interesting to view the Edinburgh extension. I wouldn’t have thought there would be a need for it as you can can get to Edinburgh Av via exiting Comm Av on London Cct.

Also, they’re creating a dedicated exit/entry lane for the extension on Vernon Circle which will drop Vernon from 3 lanes to 2 at that point.
