ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an alleged ‘glassing’ incident in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning (June 5) which left a 19-year-old man with lacerations to his face.

Around 3am Sunday, police were called to a night club in the city in relation to an altercation between two men. Prior to police arriving it is believed that a 19 year-old man was hit in the face with a glass by an unknown male.

The victim was treated at the scene by ACT Ambulance for a number of small lacerations to his head and a laceration to his hand.

The offender is described as Pacific Islander in appearance, about 173cm (5’9”) tall, with a stocky build. He was wearing a light blue shirt or T-shirt.

It is believed the offender was in the company of two other men who are both described as Pacific Islander in appearance and about 183cm (6 foot) tall. One of the men was wearing a light grey jacket and had gold crowns in his upper and lower teeth. The other man was wearing a dark grey jacket.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and would urge anyone who may have any information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

I also know the person involved in this story, and he really is the nicest person. I hope that they find the people who hurt him.

Bad things just shouldn’t happen to good people.

i know the person in this story who was glassed and it really could not have happened to a nicer person, wishing him a speedy recovery and hoping that they catch the people responsible! anyone with information really needs to come forward!
pretty doubtful that nobody saw anything when it happened a nightclub..

It’s frustrating how some neanderthal halfwits believe that hitting someone with force, anywhere in the body does not have the risk of being potentially fatal.

If you make someone keel over and fall they can hit their head on the way down. They might also have pre-existing medical conditions which may either have immediate consequences or may thwart the process of treatment in an emergency.

I really hate the fact that some people are so stupid. It’s really really sad.

Hats off to the person that walks away. Harsher penalties to the thug that inflicts an injury upon anyone.

Neck broken from a punch? In which Bruce Lee movie did you see that?

Mate, a hard enough slap on the right part of the back will kill. Movies and reality are 2 very different things.

Those 5 minute fight sequences that you see on TV that end with a finishing move or a witty comment do not happen in real life.

So says a man who has obviously never been in a fight in his life

+1. A good punch particularly to the back of the neck can do the job.

I’m with Stevian on this one.

The movies depict physical violence in a fantasy manner where savage blows that could kill or disable in real life are corrected with a quick shake of the head, followed by an aggressive counterattack by the hero, leading to victory.

The reality is that a single hard blow to the face can crush your nose, fracture your facial bones, rupture an eyeball, cause concussion or brain damage etc etc. A sharp punch to the front of the throat can easily result in a crushed larynx and asphyxiation. A hard blow to the temple where the skull is a bit thinner can fracture the skull and drive bone fragments into the brain. And a hard blow to the back of the neck is quite capable of causing spinal injuries, resulting in paralysis or death.

The miracle with street violence is that more of it doesn’t end in death or permanent disablement.

If you’re confronted with the prospect of violence in the street or a pub, forget the machismo and walk away. You’ll be well pissed off at the other tool, but next morning you’ll be alive and in one piece with all of your blood still inside you where it belongs.

If it is just fists, you have a chance of giving your own back – especially if the other person is half wasted. At worst you sport a serious shiner or broken bones, but usually that heals OK. Bring a glass into it and it becomes life and death.

Yeah, nah. It’s life and death with fists as well, if you didn’t realise. How many people get their necks broken from a punch, or their skulls fractured from falling back into furniture or the kerb?

It’s much more “gutsy” if people just step away and call the cops right off.

It just speeds up the day when the ACT Government bans glass glasses in bars. Understandably, even though it will be crook to drink your beer from plastic.

Don’t you just long for the days when we all used massive Beer Steins carved from granite

As I have said before, I don’t think we should give names to these sorts of practices – it seems to give them some sort of legitimacy.

Call it like it is:
ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an incident in the city in the early hours of Sunday morning (June 5) where a 19-year-old man allegedly had a glass smashed into his face, leaving him with serious lacerations.

Or as I’d prefer to put it: Some gutless arsehole smashed a glass into another person’s face, leaving them grievously wounded and probably scarring them for life physically and mentally.

JB’s recent experience could so easily have ended this way. If it is just fists, you have a chance of giving your own back – especially if the other person is half wasted. At worst you sport a serious shiner or broken bones, but usually that heals OK. Bring a glass into it and it becomes life and death.

%$#&ing cowards…………………………..nothing more. Glassing is really the cowards way of winning anything.

I hope they catch these bastards.
