The Clea Rose saga has taken another turn another turn according to the ABC.

The young man responsible has been in remand since breaching his bail but is now back out on the streets:

“Today in the ACT Supreme Court, Justice Malcolm Gray said he understood that the bail conditions imposed had had an effect on the teenager and his family.

He extended the 18-year-old’s original probation order until June next year and encouraged him to follow the rehabilitation recommended in a psychologist’s report tendered to the court.”

I like the bit about “the bail conditions imposed had had an effect on the teenager and his family.” Too bad, so sad. Kid should have thought of that before engaging in a life of crime.

It’s not surprising how often the words “Justice Malcolm Gray” come up in reports where there are light sentences and “mitigating circumstances” taken into account. You can assault Marist boys over many years for example and only get 2 years in jail if you show remorse and you’re suffering from poor health in Justice Gray’s court. You can defraud the Commonwealth of $73000 and if you say you’re suffering post-traumatic stress disorder you get a let off. The Guy is a joke.

String the little turd up. The bleeding hearts that supported him, where are you now?

I mean seriously, wtf has he ‘learnt’ from his ‘experience’?

Wasn’t he meant to do probation as an atonement for his actions?

I’d settle for serving out the sentence in full.

After all this I think it’s about time we said “he’s had his chances, it’s now time for the need to protect society to prevail”. Lock him up, throw away the key.

This bloke is obviously a germ and will be like a number of other recidivists (like the Masseys and the other fellow who shot himself).

The judiciary once again shows its contempt for the rest of society by giving him yet another chance. Won’t they ever learn?

I’m sick and tired of hearing about people who breach their bail conditions and yet are told “your very naughty, don’t do it again”, and let back out.

As far as I’m concerned bail is a way of balancing between the “your innocent until proven guilty” system and “we need to protect the community” system.

If someone breaches bail that should be it, no second (or fifth, sixth, seventh) chances.
