Cleo's hot men in Canberra

The October issue of Cleo has their semi-annual round up of where in each capital city is best to meet hot single men.

They say this year’s bunch of places come from the “sexiest singles study” run by speed-dating service Fast Impressions. The survey was based on “the percentage of ‘Yes, I’d like to see him again’ votes of thousands of [Fast Impressions’] female members”.

So where to go in Canberra to find those elusive hot single men? Read on and all will be revealed. Even if you don’t have an interest in picking up men, I recommend reading it anyway for a laugh (or to know where you should go to pick up Cleo readers).

NB I didn’t quite work out what the percentages in brackets were, but I figured it had to do with the rather dubious “yes, I’d see him again” votes.

1. Duntroon (49%)
If you’re into men in uniform, you’ll be in heaven in Duntroon, home base of defense personnel. Head to Mooseheads, where you’ll find them partying away.

2. Canberra CBD (49%)
It’s all about appearance so, if you want to impress this bloke, hang with a couple of girlfriends in a trendy bar, and buy a round of martinis — flash the cash, and you might get a pash!

3. Deakin (49%)
A Deakin boy is impressed by deep and intelligent women, who love a good book. On your first date, you can expect an extravagant night of fine dining at Telstra Tower on Black Mountain.

4. Yarralumla (47%)
You’ll find this style-conscious, well-travelled yuppie sipping on a beverage at the yacht club or playing a round of golf. He likes confident, strong-minded women who take pride in their appearance.

5. Dickson (47%)
Dickson men are cultured, yet extremely down-to-earth. Just be yourself (they really love a natural woman) and head to the unpretentious El Rancho [ED – Eldorado possibly? But leaving out Trinity seems odd], where you’ll find them till late, discussiong the all-important topics of life.

Any suggestions for which members of the male-kind frequent other places? How about Charny Maccas?

Work bees work!

Oh the Tradies is timeless Jey, no need to apologise.

cheap beer by the jug and cheap tasty food gets me in, plus foxtel which i choose not to pay for at home.

I regard the pokies players who pay for it as my worker bees.

Sorry JB about my tradies comment.
I was referring to some personal experiences from ppl I knew who would hang there. That was over a year ago, thus my comment was out of date and may be considered out of hand.
Bonfire, I’m glad I wasn’t the only who was in the dark about Yarralumla.
Bulldog, re men, martial arts and meeting ppl: My friend met her current partner at martial arts and they’ve been together for two years now.
So I agree with ur hobbies suggestion.

I tend to orbit Dickson, it is true, can see it looking out my window right now. El Dorado isn’t just a gay pickup, but in search of straight men O’Neils would be a better bet.

Worth noting that if the Rugby is on many of the RA editorial team can be found in the Tradies (the jury is still out on “new” tradies)

inner northican’s have much to recommend them in relationships in my opinion.

in my personal opinion those (of both sexes) who “can’t find anyone decent” do have very high standards.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. But it does come at a cost.

The chances of a healthy AND long lasting relationship with someone you meet in a bar are effectively zero.

But the chances of meeting people full stop are much, much better in the suburban bars than in civic or manuka in my experience.

I would have been sorely tempted set this car alight… Damn smackies.

Not at all, i was more bemused, because i used to shop there all the time and thought the quality of umm merchandise must have improved since my last visit. It hadnt.

In fact as I was walking to my car, i saw two junkies shooting up in the front seat of their car! Seeing a needle hanging out of a vein moments after buying a carton of milk jars the sensibilities a touch.

Bonfire, deep down, did you really think you were going to pick up at a Dickson supermarket?

Bonfire; I live in Kambah; you should check out the bogan factor in the village over a weekend. My personal favourites are the shirtless mullet wearing losers sipping their welfare bourbons at 7.30 on a sunday morning exclaiming things like “Howyagahn?” and “Waddya-do-wif-me-farkin-smokes-ya-mole”.

For those of you in the dark a ‘welfare bourbon’ is one of those 500ml woodstock premix.

bulldog, i was about to write what you just wrote.

i distinctly recall two work colleagues, both lovely people. one asked the other out, she was quite rude and dismissive to him. at a morning tea a few days later she made an offhand ‘i cant find a decent bloke anywhere’ comment. he overheard this and was really upset.

havent worked there for awhile, but last i heard she is still single, and still moaning.

the suburbs are really puzzling. where in yarralumla does one go ?

dickson ? well i was told that sunday night dicksons woolis or coles was a real singles pickup night, but when i was there it looked like saggy arsed tracksuit wearing bogan chick central.

when will ugh boots go out of fashion ?

I concur; what a load of crap. They should rename the article “Guess what suburbs we found in a street directory” becasue there has been very little research into the localities mentioned.

Don’t know where to find good blokes (alas ladies, I am a kept man) but if anyone would like my opinion I would suggest putting yourself in active environements. Join a sporting team, an interest club or try new things. Avoid pubs or nightclubs unless you’re into sleazy shallow retards.

I know lots of really good guys who won’t go pub/club crawling anymore, but play some sort of team sport, have a weird or wonderful hobby (anything from trailbikes and martial arts to ‘snag’ pursuits like bush-walking and cooking) and like to head out to suburban clubs once or twice a week.

That being said, I also have a lot of female friends who bitch about the effort they put in for no results. I have seen these smae girls be rude fucktards to some poor bloke who has just worked up the courage to try and talk to them.

Anyway; I’m hardly a guru so take it or leave it.

John lives in Dickson, doesn’t he?

El Dorardo. wierdos

I hate this wanky drivel. You’ll find real men at any of the suburban clubs in Canberra.

Anyway, I thought El Dorado was a gay pick up spot.

I guess none of their Duntroon dates dropped their pants on stage.

And what about the DIckson Tradies…c’mon there’s the cream of the crop there! *PMSL*

DUNTROON? MOOSEHEADS? SURE if you want a ….(I think its best I keep my opinions here to myself)

And has anyone ever picked up in Dickson, Deakin or Yarralumla? There a ‘hang out’ spots in Deakin and Yarralumla? Maybe they got Deakin confused with Dickson…my boyfriend does all the time!

El Rancho?… EL RANCHO?
