Closure of AAMI in Canberra

Is anyone aware that AAMI has closed shop in Fyshwick and withdrawn their physical presence from the ACT with all service now done by phone or internet?

The old complex at Fyshwick will now only be for assessment of motor vehicle claims and used by a number of insurance agencies.

Sure makes it easy to hide from angry members of the public.

Why do we have the bizarre belief that private companies are somehow here to be our servants? I use other services where I deal with people over the phone and/or internet, and it’s fine.

If you want to use a different insurer, do so.

AAMI’s other bit, Bingle, online only, got my business this year. Reviews were mixed but apparently if you know and expect what you get from an online only insurer they’re fine. They were the cheapest quote for an agreed value policy. Market value policies are also around but as my car has half the normal kms for its age I believe agreed value is a must.

AAMI lost me with those terrible What About Me? ads on the TV.

As for offering CTPI, they’ve had almost three years to step up to the plate and offer a cheaper alternative to the NRMA and they squibbed it. They just couldn’t be bothered and stood by while we all shelled out for the most expensive CTPI in Australia.

I’m not too upset about them reducing their presence in the ACT, they were not serious about competing or offering a better deal and now they’ve taken their bat and ball and gone home to Sydney. Bye, bye.

meh. I was with them, last year they charged me $590 for a $19K valued car, when the newal came in this year they bumped it up to $644 for a value of $17K.

A competitor offered me $510.

You can also only take out renters contents insurance with AAMI to a max $25K, so they lost that too.

So, I guess theres one less candidate for ACT CTPI options..
