Canberra fitness firm Club Lime, part of the VIVA Leisure group, and one of the largest privately-owned health and fitness providers in Australia, has continued its expansion into the NSW regional market with the acquisition of Xceler8 24hr Fitness in Wagga Wagga.
The deal brings the number of VIVA Leisure facilities to 24, with now three in the regions and the rest in Canberra.
VIVA Leisure said the integration of the two companies was scheduled to commence on 28 September when VIVA rolls out a rebrand of the Xceler8 site, with all existing members joining the stable of Club Lime gyms.
VIVA Leisure CEO Harry Konstantinou said the Xceler8 business was one of the most respected and longest running health clubs and gymnasiums in the Riverina region.
“The owners have done an incredible job establishing such a premium fitness destination and successfully growing the business, whilst helping many thousands of members improve their health and wellbeing for over two decades. We are very excited by what the future will bring by merging Xceler8 into the Club Lime group,” he said.
The existing Xceler8 facility is a full-service health club boasting 3700 square metres of market-leading strength equipment, dedicated training zones and the Riverina’s largest range of cardio gear along with an extensive group fitness program.
The club also houses the first 24-hour Ladies Only gym in the Riverina region, as well as a café and creche facilities.
Xceler8 founder and owner Kerry Podmore said now was the right time to sell but the team would be staying on to manage the business.
“After observing the evolution of the health club and gymnasium markets, we decided that now was the right time to sell the business to Club Lime who are well positioned to take the operation to the next level,” he said.
“My wife Cynthia, sister Michelle and myself, Xceler8’s founders, as well as the amazing team who has helped us to make the club what it is today, will be staying on to manage the business on behalf of Club Lime and we are excited by both the potential and new opportunities such an established group will bring to the Riverina.”
Club Lime recently opened new gyms in Coombs in the fast-growing Molonglo Valley and in Kambah.
Its other NSW facilities are in Goulburn, Wollongong and soon in Googong, near Queanbeyan.
Club Lime was the first health club operator in Australia to offer clubs in all four segments within the Health and Fitness industry including 24/7 ‘express’ sized clubs, boutique clubs, regular-sized clubs, and ‘big box’ clubs, and all, bar one, operate 24 hours.
The 2017-18 financial year saw Club Lime record 2.25 million casual and member visits to its facilities for the first time.
